Soft Top Assembly: Installation

  1. Lift top over rear end onto vehicle with aid of second mechanic.
  2. Have third mechanic open top compartment cover.
  3. Place top in top compartment.
  4. Insert hydraulic lines and cables.
  5. Position top on center pillar, screw in rear fasteners (A) and tighten lightly. See Figure .
  6. Ensure to screw in front fasteners (B) first, see Figure . Then connect hydraulic lines, otherwise the plugs can be pressed off of the hoses by moving the top.
  7. Route and connect hydraulic lines. See Fig 1 . Ensure that the numbers on the lines correspond with numbers on distributors.
  8. Connect plug harness connectors (S84/6x) and (S84/4x). See Figure .
  9. Lock top with top wrench (129 589 04 21 00) at rear (A) and front (B). See Fig 2 . Also, see Figure under SPECIAL TOOLS.
  10. Check position of top in relation to side windows, adjust if required. See GAP BETWEEN SOFT TOP & WINDOWS  under SOFT TOP ADJUSTMENTS under ADJUSTMENTS.
  11. Open top. Tighten screws on main bearing. See Figure .
  12. Pull up piston rod with hook (self-made). See Figure under SPECIAL TOOLS.
  13. Center piston rod using special tool (129 589 04 21 00) and install pin and clip. See Figure .
  14. Complete installation in reverse order.
  15. Check for proper function and leakage.
