Raising Soft Top

NOTE: During removal and installation procedures the numbers in parentheses, within steps, correspond to numbers inside the illustration(s). The word arrow(s) in parentheses, within steps, is used to point out specific components or movement.

Set parking brake.
Turn ignition key to position 2. See Figure .
Fold down sun visors.
Slide soft/hard top switch (28) forward and hold, see Figure . System operation:
- Side windows lower.
- Roll bar lowers.
- Indicator lamp in the soft/hard top switch lights up.
- Soft top closes and locks. Indicator lamp in soft/hard top switch goes out, closing procedure is completed.

If soft top does not engage in windshield header attachment points, then release soft/hard top switch. Reach into grip (3), see Fig 1 and guide pins into their respective locks while pulling down, slide soft/hard top switch (28) forward again. If soft/hard top switch is held or is released and slid forward again within approximately 2 seconds, side windows will close. If roll bar was previously in upright position, it will return to that position. The side windows and roll bar can also be activated using their respective switches.

WARNING: If soft top is not locked, it may fold back or forward when driving. The soft top is not locked: If indicator lamp in soft/hard top switch does not go out (ignition key in position 2). If indicator lamp blinks, and a warning sounds for 10 seconds when starting to drive. Stop vehicle and before continuing to drive, lock soft top: Ignition key in position 2. See Figure . Slide soft/hard top switch forward. During soft top operation, DO NOT place your hands near roll bar, soft top frame, upper windshield area or soft top storage compartment. Serious personal injury may occur.

For safety reasons, soft top cannot be unlocked while driving. However, if soft top is not completely locked, it can be locked while driving by pushing soft/hard top switch (28) forward. See Figure . If indicator lamp in soft/hard top switch blinks while activating switch:

The battery voltage may be insufficient, start engine and let run while activating switch.
The system may be overloaded (for example after lowering or raising soft top approximately 5 consecutive times) after approximately 2 minutes the soft/hard top switch may be activated again, or power supply was interrupted (battery disconnected or drained), the soft top cannot be fully raised or lowered.

To raise soft top, for safety reasons, first remove key from steering lock. Lower soft top by hand into compartment, and synchronize power windows. To lower soft top, first synchronize power windows. See SYNCHRONIZING POWER WINDOWS . If indicator lamp continues to blink, lock soft top manually. See SOFT TOP MANUAL ACTUATION . Perform an inspection of the system.
