Removing and installing trailer coupling - AR31.10-P-8000T

REMOVINGINSTALLING Removing, installing     
NOTES Notes on installing a trailer coupling Models 124, 129, 140, 163, 168, 201, 202, 208, 210, 215, 220 AH31.10-P-1000-02B 
1 Remove paneling on left and right in trunk    
2 Connect quiescent current retention unit   *WH58.30-Z-1012-09A 
3 Remove battery   AR54.10-P-0005EA
4 Remove cover of the trunk floor    
5.1 Remove CD changer IMPORTANT If installed. AR82.64-P-7507D
6.1 Remove telephone interface IMPORTANT If installed.  
7 Remove rear bumper    
8 Remove rear muffler    
9 Remove shield of rear muffler    
10 Unscrew trailer hitch socket (X58) from crossmember IMPORTANT 3 bolts, allow socket to hang down at cable harness.  
11 Unscrew micro-encapsulated bolts (8) with washer (7) at left vehicle longitudinal member and remove mounting bracket (9) IMPORTANT Both bolts can be accessed from the underbody.
IMPORTANTInstallation  : Use new bolts (8).		  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, stiffening bracket to longitudinal member *BA31.10-P-1003-01B 
12 Unscrew micro-encapsulated bolt (8) with washer (7) at right vehicle longitudinal member IMPORTANT Bolt can be accessed from the underbody.
IMPORTANTInstallation  : Use new bolts (8).		  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, stiffening bracket to longitudinal member *BA31.10-P-1003-01B 
13 Unscrew micro-encapsulated bolts (4) 2 bolts on both left and right, from crossmember (3) and remove crossmember (3). IMPORTANT Support crossmember.
IMPORTANTInstallation  : Use new bolts (4).		  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, crossmember to vehicle *BA31.10-P-1001-01B 
14 Unscrew self-locking nuts (6), 2 nuts on both left and right from stiffening beams (2) in the side compartments and remove right counter tab (5). IMPORTANT Counter tab (5) on left-hand side can be accessed from underbody of vehicle.
IMPORTANTInstallation  : use new nuts (6).		  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nuts to counter tab *BA31.10-P-1002-01B 
15 Remove right and left stiffening beams (2, 12) and stiffening brackets (1, 11). IMPORTANTInstallation  : Stiffening beams and stiffening brackets are labeled with "R" or "L".  
16 Install in the reverse order IMPORTANT Tighten all bolts (4, 8) and nuts (6) finger-tight, align trailer coupling and then tighten with specified torque.
