Instrument Cluster: 420SEL

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Pry out steering wheel center cap. Remove and discard screw. Remove steering wheel. On vehicles equipped with Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), remove bolts attaching center hub to steering wheel.
  2. Use extreme caution as air bag is housed inside of hub. Unplug connector for air bag and remove unit. Remove steering wheel.
    WARNING: When hub (air bag) is removed from vehicle, always store unit with padded side up. If air bag is activated in downward direction, the unit could propel upward and cause personal injury.
  3. Push top of cluster hood up and insert tool to pull cluster out. Unplug wiring, disconnect speedometer cable and remove oil pressure line. Remove cluster.
  4. To install, reverse removal procedure. On vehicles with SRS system, install steering wheel hub with extreme caution. Always use a new nut and tighten steering wheel to 60 ft. lbs. (80 N.m).
