DTC P0721-00: Output Shaft Speed Sensor: Sensor Output Range Malfunction

System malfunction location Output shaft speed sensor: Sensor output range malfunction
Detection condition
  • Any one of the following conditions is met:
    • The vehicle speed when driving forward calculated from the output shaft speed signal is the specification or more.
    • The vehicle speed when reversing calculated from the output shaft speed signal is the specification or more.

    Precondition

  • Vehicle is being driven (not during shifting)
  • There is correlation between the vehicle speed signal from the electronically controlled brake unit/DSC HU/CM and the turbine/input shaft speed signal.
Fail-safe
  • Inhibits learning control.
  • Inhibits manual mode.
  • Inhibits switching from engine-only driving to EV driving. (With Mazda M Hybrid boost)
  • Inhibits i-stop control. (Without Mazda M Hybrid boost)
  • Inhibits AAS.
Possible cause
  1. DTC is stored in the TCM. (Sensor power supply No. 1 low voltage malfunction) (See P0642-00: ).
  2. Malfunction in the following control valve body component parts (Refer to [CONTROL VALVE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in service information).
    • Output shaft speed sensor
    • Output shaft speed sensor signal circuit
    • Output shaft speed sensor power supply circuit
Repeatability verification procedure
  1. Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC .)
  2. Perform the following procedure to ensure that the DTC has been resolved:
    • Drive the vehicle under the following condition:
    • Vehicle speed: 30 km/h {19 mph} or more
