| Detection condition |
- Any one of the following conditions is met:
- The ATF temperature is more than specified value.
- The TCM board temperature is more than specified value.
|
| Fail-safe |
- Limits engine torque.
- Inhibits manual mode.
|
| Possible cause |
NOTE:
- Sudden deceleration may cause excessive tilting of the ATF fluid surface and air may enter the hydraulic passage. At this time, DTC P0218-00: may be detected, however it is a temporary symptom and the automatic transmission is normal.
- Verify the snap shot data item [TFT] before inspecting each part. Perform the following measures based on the verification results.
- If the temperature is 115°C {239°F} or more, perform inspection of the items under the following possible causes.
- If the temperature is less than 115°C {239°F}, after inspecting the ATF level and clearing the DTC, explain to the customer that it is a temporary symptom due to air entering the hydraulic passage caused by excessive tilting of the ATF fluid surface such as by sudden deceleration. (Refer to [AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID (ATF) INSPECTION
] in service information).
- The ATF level is the specified level or more. (Refer to [AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID (ATF) INSPECTION
] in service information).
- Oil cooler malfunction (adhesion of foreign matter) (Refer to [OIL COOLER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
] in service information).
- Malfunction in the following control valve body component parts (Refer to [CONTROL VALVE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
] in service information).
- ON/OFF solenoid No. 3
- ON/OFF solenoid No. 4
- Automatic transmission malfunction (automatic transmission internal malfunction) (Refer to [AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
] in service information).

| Repeatability verification procedure |
- Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC
.)
- Perform the following procedure to ensure that the DTC has been resolved:
- Start the engine and wait for 10 s or more.
