Fuel Siphoning Procedure Using Fuel Pump

NOTE:
  1. Disconnect the quick release connector shown in the figure below. (See QUICK RELEASE CONNECTOR (FUEL SYSTEM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [PYUL] ).

  2. Connect the oil-resistant fuel hose connected with the SST to the disconnected quick release connector and collect fuel into the gasoline container.

  3. Connect the wiring harness between the oil-resistant fuel hose and the vehicle body using the following procedure.
    1. Strip off 10 cm or more of the insulation from both ends of the wiring harness.
    2. Wrap the one side around the oil-resistant fuel hose.
    3. Connect the other side to a securely grounded part of the vehicle.
  4. Operate the fuel pump using the following procedure and drain the fuel.
    CAUTION:
    • Operating the fuel pump when there is no fuel in the fuel tank may cause a fuel pump malfunction. Verify the amount of fuel discharged from the hose continuously during fuel siphoning, and stop the fuel pump if the discharge amount becomes unstable.
    1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
    2. Remove the fuel pump relay.

      CAUTION:
      • Shorting the wrong terminal in the relay and fuse block may cause malfunctions. Always short only the specified terminal.
    3. Short fuel pump relay terminal C and terminal D in the relay and fuse block using a jumper wire.

    4. Connect the negative battery terminal and operate the fuel pump. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
  5. Stop the fuel pump using the following procedure.
    1. Remove the jumper wire and stop the fuel pump.
    2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
