Inspect Fuel Tank

WARNING:
- Fuel can easily ignite, therefore always keep sparks and flames away from fuel. If fuel ignites, it could cause serious injury or death and damage to facilities.
- Highly pressurized fuel may spray out if the fuel line is cut. Due to the following dangers occurring with a fuel spray, always complete the [Fuel Line Safety Procedure] to prevent the fuel from spraying.
- Fuel may cause irritation if it comes in contact with skin and eyes.
- If fuel ignites and causes a fire, it may lead to serious injury or death, and damage to property and facilities.
- A person charged with static electricity could cause a fire or explosion, resulting in death or serious injury. Before draining the fuel, always discharge static electricity by touching a vehicle.
NOTE:
- The rollover valve built into the fuel tank, and fuel tank leakage are inspected in this inspection.
- Perform the procedure with the vehicle level.
- Perform the [Fuel Line Safety Procedure] referring to [BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION]. (See FUEL DRAINING PROCEDURE [PYUL] ).
- Drain the fuel. (See FUEL DRAINING PROCEDURE [PYUL] )
- Remove the fuel tank and the fuel pump unit as a single unit. (See SEALED FUEL TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [PYUL] )
- Perform the following procedure to verify the sealing of the fuel tank.
- Plug the fuel pump unit pipe and Ports B and C.COMPONENT OPERATIONS
Component No. Refer to 1 Port A 2 Plug (Port B) 3 Plug (Port C) 4 Plug (fuel pump unit pipe) - Apply 5.9 kPa {0.060 kgf/cm2 , 0.86 psi} of pressure to Port A and leave it as is for a while.
- Verify that the pressure does not change and that no air is leaking from the fuel tank.
- If there is air leakage, replace the fuel tank. (See SEALED FUEL TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [PYUL] )
- Plug the fuel pump unit pipe and Ports B and C.
- Level the fuel tank.
- Apply 5.9 kPa {0.060 kgf/cm2
, 0.86 psi} of pressure to Port A and leave it as is for a while.COMPONENT OPERATIONS
Component No. Refer to 1 Port A 2 Plug (Port B) 3 Plug (Port C) 4 Plug (fuel pump unit pipe) - Open Port C and verify that the pressure decreases from 5.9 kPa {0.060 kgf/cm2
, 0.86 psi}.
- If it cannot be verified, replace the fuel tank. (See SEALED FUEL TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [PYUL] )
- Close Port A and apply -2.0 kPa {-0.020 kgf/cm2 , -0.29 psi} of negative pressure to Port A and leave it as is for a while.
- Open Port C and verify that the negative pressure approaches close to positive pressure from -2.0 kPa {-0.020 kgf/cm2
, -0.29 psi}.
- If it cannot be verified, replace the fuel tank. (See SEALED FUEL TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [PYUL] )
- Turn the fuel tank upside down.
- Apply 5.9 kPa {0.060 kgf/cm2 , 0.86 psi} of pressure to Port A and leave it as is for a while.
- Verify that there is no change in pressure and no air is leaking from Port C.
- If there is air leakage, replace the fuel tank. (See SEALED FUEL TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [PYUL] )
