- Strip off 10 cm or more of the insulation from both ends of the wiring harness.
- Wrap the one side around the oil-resistant fuel hose.
- Connect the other side to a securely grounded part of the vehicle.
- Operate the fuel pump using the following procedure and drain the fuel.CAUTION:
- Operating the fuel pump when there is no fuel in the fuel tank may cause a fuel pump malfunction. Verify the amount of fuel discharged from the hose continuously during fuel siphoning, and stop the fuel pump if the discharge amount becomes unstable.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
- Remove the fuel pump relay.COMPONENT OPERATIONS
Component No. Refer to 1 Fuel pump relay CAUTION:- Shorting the wrong terminal in the relay and fuse block may cause malfunctions. Always short only the specified terminal.
- Short fuel pump relay terminal C and terminal D in the relay and fuse block using a jumper wire.
- Connect the negative battery terminal and operate the fuel pump. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION
.)
- If the fuel pump cannot be operated, remove the fuel using the procedure in the reference. (See FUEL TANK LEVEL VERIFICATION )
- Stop the fuel pump using the following procedure.
- Remove the jumper wire and stop the fuel pump.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
