Inspect Fuel Pressure
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
WARNING:
- Fuel line spills and leakage from the pressurized fuel system are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injury or death, and damage to equipment. To prevent this, perform the following inspections with the engine stopped.
- Highly pressurized fuel may spray out if the fuel line is cut. Due to the following dangers occurring with a fuel spray, always complete the [Fuel Line Safety Procedure] to prevent the fuel from spraying.
- Fuel may cause irritation if it comes in contact with skin and eyes.
- If fuel ignites and causes a fire, it may lead to serious injury or death, and damage to property and facilities.
- A person charged with static electricity could cause a fire or explosion, resulting in death or serious injury. Before servicing the fuel system, make sure to discharge static electricity by touching a vehicle.
CAUTION:
- Foreign matter on the connecting area of the quick release connector might cause damage to the connector or fuel pipe. To prevent this, disconnect the quick release connector and clean the connecting area before connecting it again.
NOTE:
- Perform the procedure prepared with the special service tool (SST) fuel pressure gauge set (49 N013 1A0D).
- Perform the [Fuel Line Safety Procedure] referring to [BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION]. (See BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION [PYUL] )
- Perform the procedure with the negative lead-acid battery terminal disconnected. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
SPECIAL SERVICE TOOL (SST) DESCRIPTION
| 49 N013 1A0D Fuel pressure gauge set |
- Disconnect the quick release connector shown in the figure below. (See QUICK RELEASE CONNECTOR (FUEL SYSTEM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [PYUL] )COMPONENT OPERATIONS
Component No. Refer to 1 High pressure fuel pump 2 Quick release connector - Install the SST as shown in the figure below and turn the lever to a position where it is parallel to the hose.COMPONENT OPERATIONS
Component No. Refer to SST 49 N013 1A0D 1 Lever - Insert the SST quick release connector into the fuel pipe until a click is heard.
- Press the SST into the quick connector until a click sound is heard.
- Pull the quick release connector by hand and verify that it is installed securely.
- Operate the fuel pump for 10 s using the following procedure.
- Remove the fuel pump relay.COMPONENT OPERATIONS
Component No. Refer to 1 Relay and fuse block (RH) 2 Fuel pump relay CAUTION:- Shorting the wrong terminal in the relay and fuse block may cause malfunctions. Always short only the specified terminal.
- Short fuel pump relay terminal C and terminal D in the relay and fuse block using a jumper wire.
- Connect the negative lead-acid battery terminal and operate the fuel pump. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
- Remove the fuel pump relay.
- Measure the fuel pressure.
Fuel pressure value (standard)
475-555 kPa {4.85-5.65 kgf/cm2, 68.9-80.4 psi}
- If not within the standard, inspect the following.
Fuel pressure is lower than standard
- Fuel pump unit
- Fuel line leakage
- If there is any malfunction, repair or replace the malfunctioning location.
Fuel pressure is higher than standard
- Fuel line clogging
- If there is any malfunction, repair or replace the malfunctioning location.
- If not within the standard, inspect the following.
- Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal and stop the fuel pump. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
- Wait 5 min and measure the fuel hold pressure.
Fuel hold pressure (standard)
300 kPa {3.06 kgf/cm2, 43.5 psi}
- If not within the standard, inspect the following.
- Fuel line clogging or leakage
- If there is any malfunction, repair or replace the malfunctioning location.
- Fuel line clogging or leakage
- If not within the standard, inspect the following.
- Perform the [Fuel Line Safety Procedure] referring to [BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION]. (See BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION [PYUL] ).
- Disconnect the SST.
- Connect the quick release connector. (See QUICK RELEASE CONNECTOR (FUEL SYSTEM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [PYUL] )
- Perform the fuel leakage inspection referring to [AFTER SERVICE PRECAUTION]. (See AFTER SERVICE PRECAUTION [PYUL] ).
