Bolt removal note

  1. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise to align cylinder No. 1 near the top dead center (TDC).

    NOTE:
    • If cylinder No. 1 is placed near the top dead center (TDC), the exhaust camshaft will not move (rotate) significantly even if the timing chain is removed, making it easier to install the electric variable valve timing actuator to the camshaft. (When installing the electric variable valve timing actuator to the camshaft in a state where the exhaust camshaft has moved significantly, it is necessary to install it while rotating the exhaust camshaft to loosen the chain).
  2. Assemble several washers and nuts to an M6 bolt (length 35-60 mm {1.4-2.3 in}, entirely threaded type) as shown in the figure below.

  3. Insert a precision screwdriver into the lower service hole.

  4. While moving the exhaust camshaft back and forth in the direction of the arrows using a wrench on the hexagon part, press down the link plate of the chain tensioner with a precision screwdriver to unlock the plunger.

  5. Rotate the exhaust camshaft clockwise with the plunger unlocked until the timing chain is loosened.

  6. Screw the prepared bolt into the upper service hole by hand until the nut is seated and the tensioner arm is fixed.

  7. Remove the chain guide No. 1.
