DTC P0340-00: Intake CMP Sensor System: Circuit Malfunction (PYUL)

P0340: 00 (PCM (PYUL)) DETECTION CONDITION AND POSSIBLE CAUSE

System malfunction location Intake CMP sensor system: Circuit malfunction
Detection condition
  • Intake CMP sensor input signal pattern, received while crankshaft rotates the specified number of times, is incorrect.
Fail-safe
  • Sets the electric variable valve timing control to the maximum cam retard mode.
  • Inhibits traction control.
  • Inhibits engine-stop by i-stop control.
Vehicle status when DTCs are output
  • Not applicable
Repeatability verification procedure
  1. Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC .)
  2. Perform the KOER self test. (See DTC INSPECTION .)
Inspection/action procedure
  • Proceed with the inspection/action in the order from Step 1 below.
  • After part repair or replacement, perform the repeatability verifi cation procedure and perform a DTCinspection. (See DTC INSPECTION )
  • If the DTC inspection indicates the same DTC again, go to the next step.
  1. Inspect the wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between the sub relay and the intake CMP sensor.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    Malfunction in wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between sub relay and intake CMP sensor

    Referred to service information item

  2. Inspect the wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between the intake CMP sensor and the PCM.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    Malfunction in wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between intake CMP sensor and PCM

    Referred to service information item

  3. Inspect the intake CMP sensor.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    Intake CMP sensor malfunction (dirt on intake CMP sensor detection area, intake CMP sensor pulse wheel malfunction, damage on intake CMP sensor detection area)

    Referred to service information item 

    (See CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR INSPECTION )

  4. Verify the assembly condition of the timing chain.

    If the timing chain is not assembled correctly, assemble the timing chain correctly.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    Inappropriate assembly of timing chain or inappropriate valve timing

    Referred to service information item

  5. Replace the PCM.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    PCM malfunction (no other possible malfunction considered)

    Referred to service information item 

    (See PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
