Intention of troubleshooting procedure

P0172-00 (PCM (PYUL)) DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

Step Inspection Results Action
1 PURPOSE: VERIFY FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE FOR MALFUNCTION  Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to [FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in Service Information).
2 PURPOSE: VERIFY FUEL PUMP UNIT FOR MALFUNCTION  Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to [FUEL PUMP UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in Service Information).
3 PURPOSE: VERIFY FUEL INJECTOR FOR MALFUNCTION  Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to [FUEL INJECTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in Service Information).
4 PURPOSE: VERIFY PURGE SOLENOID VALVE FOR MALFUNCTION  Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to [PURGE SOLENOID VALVE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in Service Information).
5 PURPOSE: VERIFY MAF SENSOR FOR MALFUNCTION  Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1.
(Refer to [MASS AIR FLOW (MAF) SENSOR/INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR NO. 1 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in Service Information).
6 PURPOSE: VERIFY AIR CLEANER FOR MALFUNCTION  Yes Inspect the air cleaner element.
(Refer to [AIR CLEANER ELEMENT INSPECTION ] in Service Information).
  • If there is any malfunction:
    • Clean or replace the air cleaner element and perform the repair completion verification
    1. (Refer to [AIR CLEANER ELEMENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in Service Information).
  • If there is no malfunction:
    • Go to the next step.
No Go to the next step.
7 PURPOSE: VERIFY MAP SENSOR FOR MALFUNCTION  Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1.
(Refer to [MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE (MAP) SENSOR/INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR NO. 2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in Service Information).
8 PURPOSE: VERIFY ELECTRIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING DRIVER FOR MALFUNCTION  Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to [ELECTRIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING MOTOR/DRIVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in Service Information).
9 PURPOSE: VERIFY ELECTRIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING MOTOR FOR MALFUNCTION  Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to [ELECTRIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING MOTOR/DRIVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in Service Information).
10 PURPOSE: VERIFY ELECTRIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING ACTUATOR FOR MALFUNCTION  Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to [ELECTRIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING ACTUATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in Service Information).
11 PURPOSE: VERIFY OIL CONTROL VALVE (OCV) FOR MALFUNCTION  Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1.
(Refer to [HYDRAULIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING ACTUATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in Service Information).
12 PURPOSE: VERIFY A/F SENSOR FOR MALFUNCTION  Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to [AIR FUEL RATIO (A/F) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in Service Information).
Repair completion verification 1 PURPOSE: VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED 
  • Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
  • Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC )
  • Replicate the vehicle conditions at the time the DTC was detected using the following procedure.
  • Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM. (See DTC INSPECTION )
  • Is the same Pending DTC present?
Yes Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
(See MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN)] )
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
No DTC troubleshooting completed.
