DTC P0117-00: ECT Sensor System: Low Input (PYUL)

P0117-00 (PCM (PYUL)) DETECTION CONDITION AND POSSIBLE CAUSE

System malfunction location ECT sensor system: Low input
Detection condition
  • The specified time has elapsed with the voltage of the ECT sensor less than the standard.
Fail-safe
  • Fixes the water temperature for the engine control at 40°C {104°F}, and for the idle air control at 80°C {176°F}.
  • The cooling fan is operated (high speed).
  • Fuel cut control is canceled during shifting.
  • Inhibits engine-stop by i-stop control.
Vehicle status when DTCs are output
  • Not applicable
Repeatability verification procedure
  1. Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC )
  2. Perform the KOEO or KOER self test. (See DTC INSPECTION )
Inspection/action procedure
  • Proceed with the inspection/action in the order from Step 1 below.
  • After part repair or replacement, perform the repeatability verification procedure and perform a DTC inspection. (See DTC INSPECTION )
  • If the DTC inspection indicates the same DTC again, go to the next step.
  1. Inspect the cooling system.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    Cooling system malfunction (overheat (engine cooling system malfunction))

    Referred to service information item 

    See COOLING SYSTEM CONCERNS-OVERHEATING [PYUL]

  2. Inspect the wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between the ECT sensor and the PCM.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    Malfunction in wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between ECT sensor and PCM

    Referred to service information item 

    (See CIRCUIT INSPECTION .) (See CONNECTOR INSPECTION .)

  3. Inspect the ECT sensor.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    ECT sensor malfunction

    Referred to service information item 

    (See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR INSPECTION )

  4. Replace the PCM.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    PCM malfunction (no other possible malfunction considered)

    Referred to service information item 

    (See PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [H3T] )
