DTC P0101-00: MAF Sensor System: Function Malfunction (PYUL)

P0101-00 (PCM (PYUL)) DETECTION CONDITION AND POSSIBLE CAUSE

System malfunction location MAF sensor system: Function malfunction
Detection condition
  • The difference between the intake air amount measured by the MAF sensor and the estimated intake air amount estimated by the MAP sensor is outside of the specification.
Fail-safe
  • Inhibits engine-stop by i-stop control.
Vehicle status when DTCs are output
  • Not applicable
Repeatability verification procedure
  1. Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC )
  2. Start the engine.
  3. Access the following PCM PIDs using the M-MDS. (See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION )
    • ECT
    • TP1
    • TP2
    • ENG_RPM
  4. Warm up the engine until the engine coolant temperature is 70°C {158°F} or more.
  5. Perform the following:
    1. Depress the accelerator pedal to increase the engine speed to approx. 5, 000 RPM.
    2. Release the accelerator pedal to decrease the engine speed to idle speed.
    3. Repeat Step  1 and  2 operations above three times in succession.
Inspection/action procedure
  • Proceed with the inspection/action in the order from Step 1 below.
  • After part repair or replacement, perform the repeatability verification procedure and perform a DTC inspection. (See DTC INSPECTION )
  • If the DTC inspection indicates the same DTC again, go to the next step.
  1. Inspect the MAP sensor/IAT sensor No. 2 connector and terminal.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    MAP sensor/IAT sensor No. 2 connector or terminal malfunction

    Referred to service information item 

    See CONNECTOR INSPECTION

  2. Inspect the MAF sensor/IAT sensor No. 1 connector and terminal.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    Malfunction in wiring harness (including connector/terminal) between the IG1 relay and the body control module (BCM)

  3. Verify the MAP sensor/IAT sensor No. 2 installation condition.

    If MAP sensor/IAT sensor No. 2 has not been installed correctly, install it correctly.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    MAP sensor /IAT sensor No. 2 poor installation

    Referred to service information item 

    (See MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE (MAP) SENSOR/INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR NO. 2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )

  4. Verify the MAF sensor/IAT sensor No. 1 installation condition.

    If MAF/IAT sensor No. 1 has not been installed correctly, install it correctly.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    MAF sensor/IAT sensor No. 1 poor installation

    Referred to service information item

  5. Inspect the PCM connectors and terminals.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    PCM connector or terminal malfunction

    Referred to service information item

  6. Inspect the MAP sensor.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    MAP sensor malfunction

    Referred to service information item 

    (See MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE (MAP) SENSOR INSPECTION )

  7. Inspect the MAF sensor.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    MAF sensor malfunction

    Referred to service information item

  8. Inspect for air leakage from the intake air system.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    Air leakage from intake-air system

    Referred to service information item 

    Not applicable

  9. Inspect the purge solenoid valve

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    Purge solenoid valve malfunction

    Referred to service information item 

    PURGE SOLENOID VALVE INSPECTION

  10. Inspect the PCV valve.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    PCV valve malfunction

    Referred to service information item 

    POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV) VALVE INSPECTION

  11. Verify that a non-genuine air cleaner or air cleaner cover is not installed.

    If a non-genuine air cleaner or air cleaner cover is installed, replace it with a genuine air cleaner cover.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    A non-genuine air cleaner or air cleaner cover installed

    Referred to service information item 

    Not applicable

  12. Replace the PCM.

    Purpose/reason (possible cause) 

    PCM malfunction (no other possible malfunction considered)
