Inspect Spark Plugs: Cleaning

CAUTION:
  • When a new vehicle is delivered or when short-distance driving is repeated in the winter, carbon may adhere to the spark area of the spark plug. If rough idling or difficulty in starting the engine occurs due to smoldering of the spark plug and carbon adhesion, perform carbon burn-off by no-load racing.
  • During no-load racing, apply the parking brake and foot brake, and shift the selector lever to the P position to prevent an accident.
  • Do not use a wire brush to clean the tips, as it may damage them.
NOTE:
  • If cleaning is necessary, clean with gasoline.
  • If the accelerator pedal is depressed continuously for a specified time, the engine speed may decrease to the idle speed. This is due to the fuel cut control operation, which prevents overheating, and this does not indicate a malfunction.
  • Do not perform continuous, no-load racing at high engine speed for 10 s or more.
  1. If carbon adheres to the spark plugs, perform no-load racing at 4, 000 rpm for 2 min, 2 times.
