Troubleshooting Diagnostic Procedure

P2504: 00 (PCM (H3T)) DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

Step Inspection Results Action
1 PURPOSE: DETERMINE WHETHER FAILURE IS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE CHARGE/DISCHARGE CIRCUIT OR NOT 
  • Measure the voltage between the DC-DC converter (vehicle harness side) and the battery (plus) terminal.
  • Is the voltage 15.9 V or more?
Yes Go to the next step.
No A temporary malfunction can be considered.
  • Perform the repair completion verification 1.
2 PURPOSE: DETERMINE IF A POOR CONNECTION ON DC-DC CONVERTER AFFECTS DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS 
  • Check the connection state of the DC-DC converter (parts mounting state, connector connection state). (Refer to [DC-DC CONVERTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in service information).
  • Is the connection condition (part installation condition, connector connection condition) for part normal?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Connect part or the connector correctly, then go to Step 9.
3 PURPOSE: CHECK DC-DC CONVERTER CONNECTOR FAILURE 
  • Inspect the applicable connector and terminal. (See CONNECTOR INSPECTION .)
  • Are the connector and terminal normal?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Connect part or the connector correctly, then go to Step 9.
4 PURPOSE: DETERMINE IF POOR CONNECTION OF Mazda M Hybrid BOOST BATTERY IS AFFECTING DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS 
  • Check the connection state of the Mazda M Hybrid Boost battery (part mounting state, connector connection state). (Refer to [M HYBRID BOOST BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in service information).
  • Is the connection condition (part installation condition, connector connection condition) for part normal?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Connect part or the connector correctly, then go to Step 9.
5 PURPOSE: CHECK FOR CONNECTOR FAILURE ON Mazda M Hybrid BOOST BATTERY 
  • Inspect the applicable connector and terminal. (See CONNECTOR INSPECTION .)
  • Are the connector and terminal normal?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Connect part or the connector correctly, then go to Step 9.
6 PURPOSE: DETERMINE IF POOR CONNECTION OF DRIVE MOTOR AFFECTS DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS 
  • Check the connection state of the drive motor (part mounting state, connector connection state). (Refer to [MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in service information).
  • Is the connection condition (part installation condition, connector connection condition) for part normal?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Connect part or the connector correctly, then go to Step 9.
7 PURPOSE: CHECK CONNECTOR FAILURE OF DRIVE MOTOR 
  • Inspect the applicable connector and terminal. (See CONNECTOR INSPECTION .)
  • Are the connector and terminal normal?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Connect part or the connector correctly, then go to Step 9.
8 PURPOSE: TO CHECK FOR SHORT CIRCUITS BETWEEN CHARGE/DISCHARGE CIRCUITS OF DC-DC CONVERTER (Mazda M Hybrid BOOST), Mazda M Hybrid BOOST BATTERY OR DRIVE MOTOR 
  • Inspect the applicable circuits for a short circuit. (See CIRCUIT INSPECTION .)
  • Is the circuit normal
Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair or replace the malfunctioning location, then go to the next step.
9 PURPOSE: DETERMINE Mazda M Hybrid BOOST BATTERY DTC 
  • Check the DTC of the Mazda M Hybrid Boost battery. (See DTC INSPECTION .)
  • Is a DTC displayed?
Yes Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.

No Perform the repair completion verification 1.
Repair completion verification 1 PURPOSE: VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED 
  • Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
  • Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC .)
  • Replicate the vehicle conditions at the time the DTC was detected using the following procedure.
  • Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM. (See DTC INSPECTION .)
  • Is the same DTC displayed?
Yes Refer to the CAN (controller area network) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error. (See MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN)] .)
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
  • If, malfunction is not resolved, replace the PCM, then go to the next step. (Refer to [PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ] in service information).
No Go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 2 PURPOSE: VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs ARE DISPLAYED 
  • Perform the DTC inspection. (See DTC INSPECTION .)
  • Are other DTCs displayed?
Yes Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.

No DTC troubleshooting completed.
