DTC P0461-00: Fuel Gauge Sender Unit System: Circuit Malfunction

P0461-00: (PCM - VIN Y) DETECTION CONDITION AND POSSIBLE CAUSE

System malfunction location Fuel gauge sender unit system: Circuit malfunction
Detection condition
  • The change in the remaining fuel amount in the fuel tank is less than the specification when the amount of fuel consumption by fuel injection reaches the specified amount.
Fail-safe
  • Not applicable
Possible cause
  1. Fuel gauge sender unit (main) malfunction (Refer to applicable FUEL GAUGE SENDER UNIT INSPECTION in the service information.)
  2. Fuel gauge sender unit (sub) malfunction (Refer to applicable FUEL GAUGE SENDER UNIT INSPECTION in the service information.)
  3. Body control module (BCM) malfunction (Refer to applicable BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) INSPECTION in the service information.)
  4. PCM malfunction (Refer to applicable PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.)
Repeatability verification procedure
  1. Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (see CLEARING DTC .)
  2. Start the engine and warm it up completely.
    WARNING:
    • While performing this step, always operate the vehicle in a safe and lawful manner.
    • When the M-MDS is used to observe monitor system status while driving, be sure to have another technician with you, or record the data in the M-MDS using the PID/DATA MONITOR AND RECORD capturing function and inspect later.
  3. Try to reproduce the malfunction by driving the vehicle based on the values in the freeze frame data/snapshot data.
  4. Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM. (See DTC INSPECTION .)
