P0181-00: (PCM - VIN Y) DETECTION CONDITION AND POSSIBLE CAUSE

System malfunction location Fuel temperature sensor circuit range/performance problem
Detection condition
  • With the following conditions met, a condition has continued in which the change in fuel temperature after engine start is standard or less.

Precondition
  • Battery voltage: 8 V or more
  • Ignition switched ON (engine on)
  • Vehicle speed: 0 km/h {0 mph}
  • Change in engine coolant temperature amount after engine start: 40°C {72°F} or more
  • Elapsed time after engine start: 5 min
  • The following DTCs are not detected:
    • ECT sensor No. 1: P0117-00: and P0118-00:
    • Fuel temperature sensor: P0182-00: and P0183-00:
    • VSS: P0500-00:
Fail-safe
  • Not applicable
Possible cause
  1. Low fuel pressure sensor/fuel temperature sensor connector or terminals malfunction (see CONNECTOR INSPECTION .)
  2. Fuel temperature malfunction (Refer to applicable FUEL TEMPERATURE SENSOR INSPECTION (VIN Y) in service information.)
  3. PCM connector or terminals malfunction (see CONNECTOR INSPECTION .)
  4. PCM malfunction (Refer to applicable PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.
Repeatability verification procedure
  1. Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (see CLEARING DTC .)
  2. Replicate the vehicle conditions at the time the DTC was detected using the following procedure.
    • Start the engine. (Engine cold)
    • Drive the vehicle on a flat road surface 10 times under the following conditions.
    1. Drive the vehicle in second gear at 25 km/h {16 mph} while maintaining the speed for 25 s.
    2. Stop the vehicle and idle the engine.
  3. Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM. (See DTC INSPECTION .)
