P0171-00: (PCM - VIN Y) DETECTION CONDITION AND POSSIBLE CAUSE

System malfunction location Fuel trim system too lean
Detection condition Determination conditions
  • Any one of the following conditions is met:
    • The specified period of time has elapsed while the sum of the fuel feedback correction amount [SHRT_FUEL_TRIM] and the fuel learning correction amount [LONG_FUEL_TRIM] is the threshold or more and the fuel learning correction amount [LONG_FUEL_TRIM] is the threshold or more.
    • The specified period of time has elapsed while the fuel feedback correction amount reaches maximum value during idling or driving.
Preconditions
  • Engine coolant temperature: 0-45°C {32-113°F}, 6 0°C {140°F} or more *1
*1 : Standard can be verified by displaying PIDs using M-MDS

  • 10 s period or 20 s period

Possible cause
  • PCM input signal error
    • ECT sensor signal
    • MAF sensor signal
    • MAP sensor signal
    • IAT sensor No. 2 signal
    • Input signal parts connector or terminal malfunction
    • Input signal related wiring harness malfunction
  • Fuel system (high pressure side) malfunction (fuel pressure malfunction)
    • High fuel pressure sensor malfunction
    • Relief valve (built-into high pressure fuel pump) malfunction
    • Spill valve control solenoid valve control circuit malfunction (damage to driver in PCM caused by short circuit to ground system)
    • Spill valve control solenoid valve malfunction (built-into high pressure fuel pump)
    • High pressure fuel pump malfunction
  • Fuel leakage in fuel line
  • Fuel system (low pressure side) malfunction (fuel pressure malfunction)
    • Fuel filter clogged (built-into fuel pump unit)
    • Fuel hose, pipe clogging
    • Fuel pump unit malfunction
    • Pressure regulator (built-into fuel pump unit) malfunction
    • Fuel pump control module malfunction
  • Fuel injector malfunction
    • Improper operation of fuel injector
