Step 1
- Perform a PCM input signal part-related inspection.
Step 2-5
- Verify if there is restriction in atmosphere release passage.
Step 6
- Perform the inspection for a purge solenoid valve stuck open.
Step 7
- Perform a unit inspection of the pressure control valve.
Repair completion verification
- Verify that the primary malfunction is resolved and there are no other malfunctions.

P0496-00: (PCM - VIN Y) TROUBLESHOOTING DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

Step	Inspection	Results	Action
1	PURPOSE: INSPECT FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the applicable part. (Refer to FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR INSPECTION (VIN Y) in the service information.) Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
1		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.)
2	PURPOSE: INSPECT CV SOLENOID VALVE FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the applicable part. (Refer to CANISTER VENT (CV) SOLENOID VALVE INSPECTION (VIN Y) in the service information.) Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
2		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to CANISTER VENT (CV) SOLENOID VALVE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.)
3	PURPOSE: VERIFY IF THERE IS RESTRICTION BETWEEN CHARCOAL CANISTER AND ATMOSPHERE RELEASE PASSAGE Verify the following passage hoses, pipe connection condition, and that there is no restriction. Between charcoal canister main and charcoal canister sub Between charcoal canister sub and CV solenoid valve Between CV solenoid valve and atmosphere release Is there any poor connection or restriction?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1.
3		No	Go to the next step.
4	PURPOSE: INSPECT CHARCOAL CANISTER MAIN FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the applicable part. (Refer to CHARCOAL CANISTER INSPECTION (VIN Y) in the service information.) Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
4		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to CHARCOAL CANISTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.)
5	PURPOSE: INSPECT CHARCOAL CANISTER SUB FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the applicable part. (Refer to CHARCOAL CANISTER INSPECTION (VIN Y) in the service information.) Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
5		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to CHARCOAL CANISTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.)
6	PURPOSE: INSPECT PURGE SOLENOID VALVE FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the applicable part. (Refer to PURGE SOLENOID VALVE INSPECTION (VIN Y) in the service information.) Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
6		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to PURGE SOLENOID VALVE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.)
7	PURPOSE: INSPECT PRESSURE CONTROL VALVE FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the applicable part. (Refer to PRESSURE CONTROL VALVE INSPECTION (VIN Y) in the service information.) Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
7		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to PRESSURE CONTROL VALVE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.)
Repair completion verification 1	PURPOSE: VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure. Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (see CLEARING DTC .) Replicate the vehicle conditions at the time the DTC was detected using the following procedure. Implement the repeatability verification procedure. (See REPEATABILITY VERIFICATION PROCEDURE .) Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM. (See DTC INSPECTION .) Is the same Pending DTC present?	Yes	Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error. (See MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN)] .) If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1. If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM, then go to the next step. (Refer to PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.)
Repair completion verification 1		No	Go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 2	PURPOSE: VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED Perform the DTC inspection. (See DTC INSPECTION .) Are any other DTCs displayed?	Yes	Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
Repair completion verification 2		No	DTC troubleshooting completed.
