Troubleshooting Diagnostic Procedure: Overview

P2635:00 (PCM - VIN Y) TROUBLESHOOTING DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

Step	Inspection	Results	Action
1	PURPOSE: VERIFY BATTERY FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the applicable part. (Refer to BATTERY INSPECTION in the service information.) Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
1		No	Recharge or replace the battery and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to BATTERY RECHARGING in the service information.) (Refer to BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION in the service information.)
2	PURPOSE: VERIFY IF FUEL IN FUEL TANK IS DIRTY Remove the fuel gauge sender unit (sub). (Refer to FUEL GAUGE SENDER UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION in the service information.) Inspect for dirty fuel. Can any dirt be visually verified?	Yes	Clean the inside of the fuel tank, then replace the fuel gauge sender unit and fuel pump unit. (Refer to FUEL GAUGE SENDER UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION in the service information.) (Refer to * FUEL PUMP UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.) Perform the repair completion verification 1.
2		No	Go to the next step.
3	PURPOSE: VERIFY FUEL GAUGE SENDER UNIT (SUB) FILTER CONDITION Visually verify if the fuel gauge sender unit (sub) filter is clogged. Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
3		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to FUEL GAUGE SENDER UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION in the service information.)
4	PURPOSE: VERIFY FUEL GAUGE SENDER UNIT FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the fuel gauge sender unit (main and sub). (Refer to FUEL GAUGE SENDER UNIT INSPECTION in the service information.) Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
4		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to FUEL GAUGE SENDER UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION in the service information.)
5	PURPOSE: VERIFY CONDITION INSIDE FUEL TANK Remove the fuel pump unit. (Refer to applicable FUEL PUMP UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.) Perform the following inspections. Poor connection of hose between fuel tank (main) and fuel tank (sub) Breakage or bending of hose between fuel tank (main) and fuel tank (sub) Are all the items normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
5		No	Replace the fuel tank and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to FUEL TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.)
6	PURPOSE: INSPECT HOSE BETWEEN FUEL TANK (MAIN) AND FUEL TANK (SUB) FOR MALFUNCTION Perform the following procedure: Remove the fuel tank (main) quick release connector and the fuel tank (sub) quick release connector. (Refer to QUICK RELEASE CONNECTOR (FUEL SYSTEM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION in the service information.) Verify the airflow by blowing air through the hose. Is there any clogging in the hose?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to FUEL GAUGE SENDER UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION in the service information.)
6		No	Go to the next step.
7	PURPOSE: VERIFY FUEL PUMP UNIT FOR MALFUNCTION Install the fuel pump unit. (Refer to FUEL PUMP UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.) Inspect the fuel pump unit. (Refer to applicable FUEL PUMP UNIT INSPECTION (VIN Y) in the service information.) Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
7		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to FUEL PUMP UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.)
Repair completion verification 1	PURPOSE: VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure. Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (see CLEARING DTC .) Replicate the vehicle conditions at the time the DTC was detected using the following procedure. Implement the repeatability verification procedure. (See REPEATABILITY VERIFICATION PROCEDURE .) Refill the fuel. Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM. (See DTC INSPECTION .) Is the same Pending DTC present?	Yes	Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error. (See MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN)] .) If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1. If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM, then go to the next step. (Refer to applicable PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.)
Repair completion verification 1		No	Go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 2	PURPOSE: VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED Perform the DTC inspection. (See DTC INSPECTION .) Are any other DTCs displayed?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
Repair completion verification 2		No	DTC troubleshooting completed.
