DTC P0096-00: IAT Sensor No. 2 Circuit Range/Performance Problem

P0096:00 (PCM - VIN Y) DETECTION CONDITION AND POSSIBLE CAUSE

System malfunction location IAT sensor No. 2 circuit range/performance problem
Detection condition
  • Any one of the following conditions is met:
    • The condition has continued in which difference in intake air temperature measured by the IAT sensor No. 2 and IAT sensor No. 1 is not within the specification.
    • The condition has continued in which difference in intake air temperature measured by the boost air temperature sensor and IAT sensor No. 2 is not within the specification.

Precondition 
  • Period vehicle being left: 6 h or more
  • Battery voltage: 8 V or more
  • Within 20 s after engine start
  • The following DTCs are not detected:
    • Boost air temperature sensor: P007C:00 and P007D:00
    • IAT sensor No. 1: P0110:00 and U060F:00
    • IAT sensor No. 2: P0097:00 and P0098:00
Fail-safe
  • Not applicable
Possible cause
  1. IAT sensor No. 2 connector or terminals malfunction (see CONNECTOR INSPECTION .)
  2. IAT sensor No. 2 malfunction (Refer to INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR INSPECTION (VIN Y) in the service information.)
  3. PCM connector or terminals malfunction (see CONNECTOR INSPECTION .)
  4. PCM malfunction (Refer to applicable PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.)
Repeatability verification procedure
  1. Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (see CLEARING DTC .)
  2. Replicate the vehicle conditions at the time the DTC was detected using the following procedure.
    WARNING:
    • While performing this step, always operate the vehicle in a safe and lawful manner.
    • When the M-MDS is used to observe monitor system status while driving, be sure to have another technician with you, or record the data in the M-MDS using the PID/DATA MONITOR AND RECORD capturing function and inspect later.
    • Drive the vehicle under the freeze frame data/snapshot data condition.
  3. Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM. (See DTC INSPECTION .)
