Step 1-3
- Perform an inspection of the connectors and wiring harnesses between the battery positive terminal and electric variable valve timing relay and the electric variable valve timing motor/driver.
Step 4
- Perform a unit inspection of the electric variable valve timing relay.
Step 5-7
- Perform an inspection of the electric variable valve timing drive parts.
Step 8-9
- Inspect the intake CMP sensor and CKP sensor detection areas for adhesion of foreign matter.
Repair completion verification
- Verify that the primary malfunction is resolved and there are no other malfunctions.

P0012:00 (PCM - VIN Y) TROUBLESHOOTING DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

Step	Inspection	Results	Action
1	PURPOSE: INSPECT WIRING HARNESS (INCLUDING CONNECTOR/TERMINAL) BETWEEN BATTERY AND ELECTRIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING RELAY FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the applicable circuit. (see CIRCUIT INSPECTION .) (see CONNECTOR INSPECTION .) Is the circuit normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
1		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1.
2	PURPOSE: INSPECT WIRING HARNESS (INCLUDING CONNECTOR/TERMINAL) BETWEEN ELECTRIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING RELAY AND ELECTRIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING MOTOR/DRIVER FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the applicable circuit. (see CIRCUIT INSPECTION .) (see CONNECTOR INSPECTION .) Is the circuit normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
2		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1.
3	PURPOSE: VERIFY PCM CONNECTOR FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the applicable connector and terminal. (see CONNECTOR INSPECTION .) Are the connector and terminal normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
3		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1.
4	PURPOSE: VERIFY ELECTRIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING RELAY FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the electric variable valve timing relay. (Refer to RELAY LOCATION (VIN Y) in the service information.) (Refer to RELAY INSPECTION in the service information.) Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
4		No	Replace the electric variable valve timing relay and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to RELAY LOCATION (VIN Y) in the service information.)
5	PURPOSE: VERIFY ELECTRIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING MOTOR FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the applicable part. (Refer to ELECTRIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING MOTOR/DRIVER INSPECTION (VIN Y) in the service information.) Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
5		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to ELECTRIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING MOTOR/DRIVER INSPECTION (VIN Y) in the service information.)
6	PURPOSE: VERIFY ELECTRIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING ACTUATOR FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the applicable part. (Refer to ELECTRIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING ACTUATOR INSPECTION (VIN Y) in the service information.) Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
6		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to ELECTRIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING ACTUATOR, HYDRAULIC VARIABLE VALVE TIMING ACTUATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.)
7	PURPOSE: VERIFY ASSEMBLY CONDITION OF TIMING CHAIN Verify the condition of the timing chain assembly (intake valve timing, looseness, jumping). (Refer to TIMING CHAIN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.) Is there any malfunction?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning part. Assemble the timing chain using the correct timing. (Refer to TIMING CHAIN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.) Perform the repair completion verification 1.
7		No	Go to the next step.
8	PURPOSE: VERIFY IF FOREIGN MATTER ON INTAKE CMP SENSOR DETECTION AREA AFFECTS DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS Visually inspect for intake CMP sensor. (Refer to CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR INSPECTION (VIN Y) in the service information.) Is there foreign matter such as metallic dust on the intake CMP sensor detection area?	Yes	Remove the foreign matter and perform the repair completion verification 1.
8		No	Go to the next step.
9	PURPOSE: VERIFY IF FOREIGN MATTER ON CKP SENSOR DETECTION AREA AFFECTS DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS Visually inspect for CKP sensor. (Refer to CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR INSPECTION (VIN Y) in the service information.) Is there foreign matter such as metallic dust on the CKP sensor detection area?	Yes	Remove the foreign matter and perform the repair completion verification 1.
9		No	Go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 1	PURPOSE: VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure. Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (see CLEARING DTC .) Replicate the vehicle conditions at the time the DTC was detected using the following procedure. Implement the repeatability verification procedure. (See REPEATABILITY VERIFICATION PROCEDURE .) Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM. (See DTC INSPECTION .) Is the same Pending DTC present?	Yes	Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error. (See MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN)] .) If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1. If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM, then go to the next step. (Refer to applicable PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) in the service information.)
Repair completion verification 1		No	Go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 2	PURPOSE: VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED Perform the DTC inspection. (See DTC INSPECTION .) Are any other DTCs displayed?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
Repair completion verification 2		No	DTC troubleshooting completed.
