Will Not Crank (VIN Y): Outline

WILL NOT CRANK (VIN Y) DESCRIPTION AND POSSIBLE CAUSE

Troubleshooting item Will not crank
Description
  • Cannot crank. (Starter does not rotate.)
Possible cause
  • Battery malfunction
  • Fuse malfunction
  • Poor connection of push button start connector
  • Instrument cluster or related wiring harness malfunction
  • Immobilizer system malfunction
  • PCM detects DTCs
  • Open circuit in PCM power supply circuit
  • Open circuit in main relay control circuit
  • Malfunction in CAN communication line between DLC-2 and PCM
  • Main relay malfunction (stuck open)
  • Poor connection of vehicle body ground
  • Starter relay malfunction
  • TCM malfunction (without shift by wire)
  • TCM and related wiring harness malfunction (without shift by wire)
  • Selector lever malfunction (with shift by wire)
  • Selector lever and related wiring harness malfunction (with shift by wire)
  • Short to ground in starter relay control circuit
  • Open circuit in starter relay control circuit
  • Short to ground or open circuit in starter relay power supply circuit
  • Short to ground or open circuit in starter power supply circuit
  • Engine starting system malfunction
  • Following circuit and/or connector malfunction:
    • Between coil antenna and LF control unit
    • Between LF control unit and body control module (BCM)
    • Between body control module (BCM) and PCM
  • Seized engine or drive plate
  • Engine damage during compression due to liquid (such as water, fuel, or engine oil) penetration into cylinder
WARNING:
  • The following troubleshooting flow chart contains the fuel system diagnosis and repair procedures. Read the following warnings before performing the fuel system services:
    • Fuel vapor is hazardous. It can easily ignite, causing serious injury and damage. Always keep sparks and flames away from fuel.
    • Highly pressurized fuel may spray out if the fuel line is cut. Due to the following dangers occurring with a fuel spray, always complete the [Fuel Line Safety Procedure] to prevent the fuel from spraying. (Refer to BEFORE SERVICE PRECAUTION (VIN Y) .)
      • Fuel may cause irritation if it comes in contact with skin and eyes.
      • If fuel ignites and causes a fire, it may lead to serious injury or death, and damage to property and facilities.
    • Fuel is highly flammable and dangerous. Fuel line spills and leakage can cause serious injury or death, and damage to equipment. Always refer to the [Quick Release Connector Removal/Installation (fuel system)] before performing the fuel hose installation, and execute the [Fuel Leakage Inspection] after installation. (Refer to QUICK RELEASE CONNECTOR (FUEL SYSTEM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) .) (Refer to AFTER SERVICE PRECAUTION (VIN Y) .)
CAUTION:
  • Disconnecting/connecting the quick release connector without cleaning it may possibly cause damage to the fuel pipe and quick release connector. Always clean the quick release connector joint area before disconnecting/connecting, and make sure that it is free of foreign material.
