LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHT FLASHES (VIN Y) DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

Step	Inspection	Results	Action
1	VERIFY FUEL LEVEL ON FUEL GAUGE Verify the fuel level on the fuel gauge. Does the fuel level indicate near E?	Yes	Explain to the customer that a lack of fuel is the cause. Complete the symptom troubleshooting.
1		No	Go to the next step.
2	VERIFY BATTERY FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the applicable part. (Refer to BATTERY INSPECTION .) Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
2		No	Recharge or replace the battery and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to BATTERY RECHARGING .) (Refer to BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
3	VERIFY PCM DTCs Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM. (See DTC INSPECTION .) Are any DTCs displayed?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting. (See DTC TABLE [PCM (VIN Y)] .)
3		No	Go to the next step.
4	VERIFY BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) DTCs Perform the DTC inspection for the body control module (BCM). (See DTC INSPECTION .) Are any DTCs displayed?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting. (See DTC TABLE [BCM] .)
4		No	Go to the next step.
5	VERIFY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the applicable part. (Refer to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INSPECTION .) Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
5		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
6	VERIFY IF FUEL IN FUEL TANK IS DIRTY Remove the fuel gauge sender unit (sub). (Refer to FUEL GAUGE SENDER UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .) Inspect for dirty fuel. Can any dirt be visually verified?	Yes	Clean the inside of the fuel tank and replace the fuel gauge sender unit and the fuel pump unit. (Refer to FUEL GAUGE SENDER UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION and/or FUEL PUMP UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) .) Perform the repair completion verification 1.
6		No	Go to the next step.
7	VERIFY FUEL GAUGE SENDER UNIT (SUB) FILTER CONDITION Visually verify if the fuel gauge sender unit (sub) filter is clogged. Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
7		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to FUEL GAUGE SENDER UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
8	VERIFY FUEL GAUGE SENDER UNIT FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the fuel gauge sender unit (main) and (sub). (Refer to FUEL GAUGE SENDER UNIT INSPECTION .) Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
8		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to FUEL GAUGE SENDER UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
9	VERIFY CONDITION INSIDE FUEL TANK Remove the fuel pump unit. (Refer to FUEL PUMP UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) .) Perform the following inspections. Poor connection of hose between fuel tank (main) and fuel tank (sub) Breakage or bending of hose between fuel tank (main) and fuel tank (sub) Are all the items normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
9		No	Replace the fuel tank and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to FUEL TANK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) .)
10	VERIFY HOSE BETWEEN FUEL TANK (MAIN) AND FUEL TANK (SUB) FOR MALFUNCTION Perform the following procedure. Remove the fuel tank (main) quick release connector and the fuel tank (sub) quick release connector. (Refer to QUICK RELEASE CONNECTOR (FUEL SYSTEM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) .) Verify the airflow by blowing air through the hose. Is there any clogging in the hose?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to FUEL GAUGE SENDER UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
10		No	Go to the next step.
11	VERIFY FUEL PUMP UNIT FOR MALFUNCTION Install the fuel pump unit. (Refer to FUEL PUMP UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) .) Inspect the applicable part. (Refer to FUEL PUMP UNIT INSPECTION (VIN Y) .) Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
11		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to FUEL PUMP UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) .)
12	VERIFY FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the applicable part. (Refer to FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE INSPECTION (VIN Y) .) Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
12		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification 1. (Refer to FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) .)
Repair completion verification 1	VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure. Has the malfunction symptom been eliminated?	Yes	Complete the symptom troubleshooting. (Explain contents of repair to customer)
Repair completion verification 1		No	Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error. (See MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN)] .) If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1. If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM. (Refer to PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (VIN Y) .)
