Rear Bumper Removal/Installation

CAUTION:
  • Affix the protective tape to the position (vehicle body side) shown in the figure to prevent scratches and damage.

  • If the area shown in the figure is repainted, the radar sensor (rear side) cannot be aimed correctly. If the area shown in the figure needs to be repainted, replace the rear bumper.
  • When repainting the rear bumper face, do not repaint the radar emitting area shown in the figure, as it may not be possible to aim the radar sensor (rear side) correctly.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
  2. Remove the following parts:
    1. Rear package tray (See REAR PACKAGE TRAY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    2. Trunk covering (See TRUNK COVERING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    3. Trunk board (See TRUNK BOARD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    4. Trunk end trim (See TRUNK END TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    5. Trunk side upper trim (See TRUNK SIDE UPPER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  3. Partially peel back the trunk side trim. (See TRUNK SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  4. Remove the following parts:
    1. Trunk side insulator (See TRUNK SIDE INSULATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    2. Rear combination light (See REAR COMBINATION LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    3. Rear over fender (See REAR OVER FENDER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    4. Rear splash shield (See SPLASH SHIELD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  5. Remove the screw shown in the figure.

  6. Remove the caps.

  7. Remove the screws and fasteners shown in the figure.

    CAUTION:
    • If the rear bumper hooks are detached from the rear bumper slider without supporting the rear bumper, it may fall off and be damaged. Detach the rear bumper hooks from the rear bumper slider using two people, one person supports the rear bumper.
    • Carefully remove the rear bumper from the rear bumper slider. If the rear bumper hooks are detached from the rear bumper slider with excessive force, the rear bumper hooks may be damaged because the rear bumper hooks and the rear bumper slider are engaged firmly.
  8. Detach the rear bumper from the rear bumper sliders while holding the rear end of the rear bumper, moving it in the direction of arrows (1), (2) and (3) shown in the figure, and detaching the hooks.

  9. Disconnect the connector. (with rear ultrasonic sensor or rear side radar sensor)

  10. Remove the wiring harness clip. (with rear ultrasonic sensor or rear side radar sensor)
  11. Detach the tabs and remove the grommet from the body panel. (with rear ultrasonic sensor or rear side radar sensor)

  12. Hold the shaded areas shown in the figure, move the rear bumper in the direction of the arrow, and detach the rear bumper from the tabs.

  13. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  14. Perform the rear side radar sensor aiming adjustment. (with rear side radar sensor) (See FRONT SIDE/REAR SIDE RADAR SENSOR AIMING .)
CAUTION:
  • If there is foreign matter on the rear bumper, the aiming cannot be performed correctly. Before performing the aiming, verify that there are no stickers, water, mud, or dirt on the rear bumper.
