Intention of troubleshooting procedure

Step 1
- Verify engine oil level.
Step 2
- Verify the OCV for No. 1 cylinder deactivation installation condition.
Step 3
- Verify the OCV for No. 4 cylinder deactivation installation condition.
Step 4
- Perform a unit inspection of the switchable HLA.
Step 5
- Verify if the intake valve and exhaust valve for the No. 1 cylinder are not stuck open.
Step 6
- Verify if the intake valve and exhaust valve for the No. 4 cylinder are not stuck open.
Step 7
- Perform a unit inspection of the engine oil solenoid valve.
Step 8-10
- Perform an engine oil related inspection.
Step 11-12
- Verify that the primary malfunction is resolved and there are no other malfunctions.

TROUBLESHOOTING DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

Step	Inspection	Results	Action
1	PURPOSE: INSPECT ENGINE OIL LEVEL Switch the ignition off. Inspect the engine oil level. (See ENGINE OIL LEVEL INSPECTION [VIN M] ). Is the engine oil level sufficient?	Yes	Go to the next step.
1		No	Add genuine engine oil, then go to Step 11. (See ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT [VIN M] ).
2	PURPOSE: VERIFY IF OCV FOR No. 1 CYLINDER DEACTIVATION IS INSTALLED CORRECTLY Verify the OCV for No. 1 cylinder deactivation installation condition. (See OIL CONTROL VALVE (OCV) FOR CYLINDER DEACTIVATION INSPECTION [VIN M] ). Is the installation condition normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
2		No	Correctly install the OCV for No. 1 cylinder deactivation, then go to Step 11. (See OIL CONTROL VALVE (OCV) FOR CYLINDER DEACTIVATION REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [VIN M] ).
3	PURPOSE: VERIFY IF OCV FOR No. 4 CYLINDER DEACTIVATION IS INSTALLED CORRECTLY Verify the OCV for No. 4 cylinder deactivation installation condition. (See OIL CONTROL VALVE (OCV) FOR CYLINDER DEACTIVATION INSPECTION [VIN M] ). Is the installation condition normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
3		No	Correctly install the OCV for No. 4 cylinder deactivation, then go to Step 11. (See OIL CONTROL VALVE (OCV) FOR CYLINDER DEACTIVATION REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [VIN M] ).
4	PURPOSE: INSPECT SWITCHABLE HLA FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the applicable part. (See HYDRAULIC LASH ADJUSTER (HLA) INSPECTION [VIN M] ). Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
4		No	Clean or replace the malfunctioning location, then go to Step 11. (See HYDRAULIC LASH ADJUSTER (HLA) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [VIN M] ).
5	PURPOSE: INSPECT CONDITION OF INTAKE VALVE AND EXHAUST VALVE FOR No. 1 CYLINDER Inspect the condition of the intake valve and the exhaust valve for No. 1 cylinder. Are the intake valve and the exhaust valve for No. 1 cylinder stuck?	Yes	Clean or replace the stuck valve, then go to Step 11.
5		No	Go to the next step.
6	PURPOSE: INSPECT CONDITION OF INTAKE VALVE AND EXHAUST VALVE FOR No. 4 CYLINDER Inspect the condition of the intake valve and the exhaust valve for No. 4 cylinder. Are the intake valve and the exhaust valve for No. 4 cylinder stuck?	Yes	Clean or replace the stuck valve, then go to Step 11.
6		No	Go to the next step.
7	PURPOSE: INSPECT ENGINE OIL SOLENOID VALVE FOR MALFUNCTION Inspect the applicable part. (See ENGINE OIL SOLENOID VALVE INSPECTION [VIN M] ). Is the part normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
7		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location, then go to Step 11. (See ENGINE OIL SOLENOID VALVE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [VIN M] ).
8	PURPOSE: INSPECT IF INSUFFICIENT HYDRAULIC PRESSURE CAUSED BY USE OF UNSPECIFIED ENGINE OIL Is the specified engine oil being used?	Yes	Go to the next step.
8		No	Replace the engine oil with genuine engine oil. (See ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT [VIN M] ). Perform the "ENGINE OIL DATA RESET", then go to Step 11. (See ENGINE OIL DATA RESET [VIN M] ).
9	PURPOSE: INSPECT ENGINE OIL PRESSURE Inspect the engine oil pressure. (See OIL PRESSURE INSPECTION [VIN M] ). Is there any malfunction?	Yes	Go to the next step.
9		No	Go to repair completion verification.
10	PURPOSE: VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION RELATED TO ENGINE OIL LEAK OR RESTRICTION AFFECTS DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS Start the engine. Verify if there is engine oil leakage in the oil passage or restriction. Is there engine oil leakage in the oil passage or restriction?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location. Add genuine engine oil, then go to Step 11. (See ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT [VIN M] ).
10		No	Go to the next step.
11	PURPOSE: VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure. Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC ). Replicate the vehicle conditions at the time the DTC was detected using the following procedure. Start the engine and warm it up completely. WARNING: While performing this step, always operate the vehicle in a safe and lawful manner. When the M-MDS is used to observe monitor system status while driving, be sure to have another technician with you, or record the data in the M-MDS using the PID/DATA MONITOR AND RECORD capturing function and inspect later. Drive the vehicle under the freeze frame data/snapshot data condition. Perform the DTC inspection for the PCM. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST ). Is the same Pending DTC present?	Yes	Repeat the inspection from Step 1. If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM. (See PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [VIN M] ). Go to the next step.
11		No	Go to the next step.
12	PURPOSE: VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE Perform the "AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE". (See AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE ). Are any DTCs present?	Yes	Go to the applicable DTC inspection. (See DTC TABLE ).
12		No	DTC troubleshooting completed.
