Intention of troubleshooting procedure

- Step 1
- Verify engine oil level.
- Step 2
- Verify the OCV for No. 1 cylinder deactivation installation condition.
- Step 3
- Verify the OCV for No. 4 cylinder deactivation installation condition.
- Step 4
- Perform a unit inspection of the switchable HLA.
- Step 5
- Verify if the intake valve and exhaust valve for the No. 1 cylinder are not stuck open.
- Step 6
- Verify if the intake valve and exhaust valve for the No. 4 cylinder are not stuck open.
- Step 7
- Perform a unit inspection of the engine oil solenoid valve.
- Step 8-10
- Perform an engine oil related inspection.
- Step 11-12
- Verify that the primary malfunction is resolved and there are no other malfunctions.

| 4 | PURPOSE: INSPECT SWITCHABLE HLA FOR MALFUNCTION

| No | Clean or replace the malfunctioning location, then go to Step 11. (See HYDRAULIC LASH ADJUSTER (HLA) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [VIN M] ). |

| 5 | PURPOSE: INSPECT CONDITION OF INTAKE VALVE AND EXHAUST VALVE FOR No. 1 CYLINDER

Yes | Clean or replace the stuck valve, then go to Step 11. |
| No | Go to the next step. | ||
| 6 | PURPOSE: INSPECT CONDITION OF INTAKE VALVE AND EXHAUST VALVE FOR No. 4 CYLINDER

Yes | Clean or replace the stuck valve, then go to Step 11. |
| No | Go to the next step. | ||
| 7 | PURPOSE: INSPECT ENGINE OIL SOLENOID VALVE FOR MALFUNCTION

| No | Repair or replace the malfunctioning location, then go to Step 11. (See ENGINE OIL SOLENOID VALVE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [VIN M] ). |

| 8 | PURPOSE: INSPECT IF INSUFFICIENT HYDRAULIC PRESSURE CAUSED BY USE OF UNSPECIFIED ENGINE OIL

| No | Replace the engine oil with genuine engine oil. (See ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT [VIN M] ). Perform the "ENGINE OIL DATA RESET", then go to Step 11. (See ENGINE OIL DATA RESET [VIN M] ). |

| 9 | PURPOSE: INSPECT ENGINE OIL PRESSURE

| No | Go to repair completion verification. | ||
| 10 | PURPOSE: VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION RELATED TO ENGINE OIL LEAK OR RESTRICTION AFFECTS DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS

Yes | Repair or replace the malfunctioning location. Add genuine engine oil, then go to Step 11. (See ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT [VIN M] ). |

| 11 | PURPOSE: VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED

Yes | Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
