VEHICLE DOES NOT MOVE IN D, M OR R POSITION (GW6AX-EL) DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

Step	Inspection	Results	Action
1	INSPECT PARKING MECHANISM FOR MALFUNCTION When the vehicle is stopped on a flat, level road and the engine is off, does the vehicle move when pushed? (In D, N or R position with the brake pedal released).	Yes	Go to the next step.
1		No	Replace the parking mechanism. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [GW6AX-EL (VIN Y)] ).
2	VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS MANUAL SHAFT OR TORQUE CONVERTER Move the vehicle to a level surface and apply the parking brake. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION ). Remove the battery component (ex: battery, battery tray and PCM component). (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [VIN Y] ). Remove the air cleaner component. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [VIN Y] ). Can the manual shaft be rotated by hand? Courtesy of MAZDA MOTORS CORP.	Yes	Replace the automatic transaxle. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [GW6AX-EL (VIN Y)] ).
2		No	Replace the control valve body. (See CONTROL VALVE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [GW6AX-EL] ).
