FUEL ODOR (IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT, SKYACTIV-G, US) DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

Step	Inspection	Results	Action
1	INSPECT FOR MISSING OR LOOSE FUEL FILLER CAP Visually inspect if the fuel filler cap is missing or loose. Is there any malfunction?	Yes	Repair or replace the fuel filler cap and perform the repair completion verification.
1		No	U.S.A. and CANADA: Go to the next step. Except (U.S.A. and CANADA): Go to Step 3.
2	INSPECT EVAPORATIVE HOSE CONNECTION Inspect the evaporative hose between the fuel tank, pressure control valve, charcoal canister main, purge solenoid valve, and the intake manifold. (See EMISSION SYSTEM LOCATION INDEX [SKYACTIV-G (VIN M (US))] .) (See EMISSION SYSTEM LOCATION INDEX [SKYACTIV-G (VIN L (US))] .) Is there disconnection in the evaporative hose or damage?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
2		No	Go to Step 4.
3	INSPECT EVAPORATIVE HOSE CONNECTION Inspect the evaporative hose between the fuel tank, charcoal canister, purge solenoid valve, and the intake manifold. (See EMISSION SYSTEM LOCATION INDEX [SKYACTIV-G (VIN M (US))] .) (See EMISSION SYSTEM LOCATION INDEX [SKYACTIV-G (VIN L (US))] .) Is there disconnection in the evaporative hose or damage?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
3		No	Go to the next step.
4	INSPECT FUEL SYSTEM FOR FUEL LEAKAGE Visually inspect the fuel leakage at the fuel line. Is there any leakage?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
4		No	Go to the next step.
5	INSPECT PURGE SOLENOID VALVE Inspect the airflow of purge solenoid valve. (See PURGE SOLENOID VALVE INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-G (VIN M (US))] .) (See PURGE SOLENOID VALVE INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-G (VIN L (US))] .) Is the purge solenoid airflow properly?	Yes	U.S.A. and CANADA: Go to the next step. Except (U.S.A. and CANADA): Go to Step 8.
5		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
6	INSPECT CHARCOAL CANISTER MAIN Inspect the charcoal canister main. (See CHARCOAL CANISTER INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-G (VIN M (US))] .) (See CHARCOAL CANISTER INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-G (VIN L (US))] .) Is there cracking or damage in the charcoal canister main?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
6		No	Go to the next step.
7	INSPECT CHARCOAL CANISTER SUB Inspect the charcoal canister sub. (See CHARCOAL CANISTER INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-G (VIN M (US))] .) (See CHARCOAL CANISTER INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-G (VIN L (US))] .) Is there cracking or damage in the charcoal canister sub?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
7		No	Remove the fuel injector and visually inspect fuel injector or leakage. (See FUEL INJECTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G (VIN M (US))] .) (See FUEL INJECTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G (VIN L (US))] .) If there is any malfunction: Replace the fuel injector if necessary and perform the repair completion verification. 8	INSPECT CHARCOAL CANISTER Inspect the charcoal canister. (See CHARCOAL CANISTER INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-G (VIN M (US))] .) (See CHARCOAL CANISTER INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-G (VIN L (US))] .) Is there cracking or damage in the charcoal canister?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform the repair completion verification.
8		No	Remove the fuel injector and visually inspect fuel injector or leakage. (See FUEL INJECTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G (VIN M (US))] .) (See FUEL INJECTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G (VIN L (US))] .) If there is any malfunction: Replace the fuel injector if necessary and perform the repair completion verification. Repair completion verification 1	VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure. Has the malfunction symptom been eliminated?	Yes	Complete the symptom troubleshooting. (Explain contents of repair to customer)
Repair completion verification 1		No	Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error. (See CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN) MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [(US)] .) If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1. If the malfunction recurs, go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 2	VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION IS CAUSED BY NOT PERFORMING PCM REPROGRAMMING Verify repair information and verify that there is a new calibration in the PCM. Is there a new calibration in the PCM?	Yes	Perform the PCM reprogramming and verify if the malfunction symptom was corrected. If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM.
