Diagnostic Procedure

STEP	INSPECTION		ACTION
1	DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS M POSITION SWITCH OR DOWN SWITCH Verify that the shift position indicator in the instrument cluster is in the M position. Is the shift position indicator in the instrument cluster normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
1		No	Perform the symptom troubleshooting "NO.31 M POSITION IN SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR LIGHT DOES NOT ILLUMINATE IN M POSITION/ILLUMINATES IN D POSITION". (See NO.31 M POSITION IN SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR LIGHT DOES NOT ILLUMINATE IN M POSITION/ILLUMINATES IN D POSITION .)
2	VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS DOWN SWITCH SIGNAL OR INSTRUMENT CLUSTER Inspect the value at the following TCM PID using the M-MDS (IDS) when the selector lever is pushed to "+" side. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION .) DWN SW Is the PID value normal?	Yes	Inspect the instrument cluster. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INSPECTION .) Replace the instrument cluster if necessary. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
2		No	Inspect the down switch. (See DOWN SWITCH INSPECTION .) If the down switch has a malfunction: Replace the down switch. (See DOWN SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .) If the down switch is normal: Inspect for continuity between the following: Selector lever component terminal C-TCM terminal F Selector lever component terminal H-Body GND Repair or replace any malfunctioning parts according to the inspection result.
3	Verify the test results. If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms. If the malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Bulletins and/or On-line Repair Information and perform repair or diagnosis. If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting is completed. If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace the TCM. (See TCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
