Diagnostic Procedure

STEP	INSPECTION		ACTION
1	VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY Verify related Service Bulletins and/or on-line repair information availability. Is any related repair information available?	Yes	Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information. If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
1		No	Go to the next step.
2	VERIFY MALFUNCTION SYMPTOM Has the customer indicated that there is a lack of power?	Yes	Go to the next step.
2		No	Go to Step 4.
3	VERIFY THAT VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN ON MUD OR SLIPPERY ROAD Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2. Verify the following monitoring value using the PID/data monitor function. DGP_DIS_1 (traveled distance since last recording of DTC P1712:00) Verify with the customer if the vehicle had been driven on a muddy or slippery road at the traveled distance indicated by the above monitoring value. Has the customer driven on a muddy or slippery road?	Yes	Explain to the customer that the torque reduction control operates to prevent the differential journal from burning or seizure, however, this does not indicate a malfunction. After explanation, go to the next step.
3		No	Verify that the cause of the lack of power is engine-related. (See ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM SYMPTOM DIAGNOSTIC INDEX .) After inspection, go to the next step.
4	VERIFY THAT NO OTHER DTCs ARE PRESENT Switch the ignition OFF, then switch it ON. Verify the DTCs recorded in the TCM (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM DTC INSPECTION -- AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE .) Are any DTCs other than P1712:00 recorded?	Yes	Go to the applicable DTC inspection (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM DTC TABLE .)
4		No	Go to the next step.
5	CLEAR DTC P1712:00 Clear the DTC using the M-MDS. Switch the ignition OFF, then switch it ON. Verify the DTCs recorded in the TCM. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM DTC INSPECTION -- AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE .) Has DTC P1712:00 been recorded?	Yes	Repeat Step 5.
5		No	DTC troubleshooting completed.
