Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Mazda 6. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: Accidental air bag deployment is possible. Personal injury may result. Disconnecting front crash sensor connector or removing sensor with ignition switch in ON position can cause air bags and pretensioners to deploy. Always disable air bag system prior to disconnecting or removing crash sensor.
  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
  2. Remove radiator grille retaining screws. Release radiator grille retaining clips, located at bottom of grille, and remove grille. Remove front crash sensor cover mounting bolt and cover. See Fig 1 . Remove front crash sensor mounting bolt. Disconnect front crash sensor electrical connector and remove sensor.
  3. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten mounting bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Check AIR BAG warning light for proper system function. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  .
