Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Inspect for blown ENGINE fuse (10-amp), METER fuse (10-amp) or ROOM fuse (10-amp) located in underdash fuse block. If all fuses are okay, go to next step. If any fuse is blown, check for short to ground in affected circuit. Repair as necessary and replace blown fuse.
  2. Check to ensure that all door switches are installed securely. If all switches are properly installed, go to next step. If any switches are not properly installed, repair switch and go to PRELIMINARY INSPECTION step  5 under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  3. Inspect door switch using instrument cluster input/output check mode. See INSTRUMENT PANELS article. If door switch functions properly, go to next step. If door switch does not function properly, repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  13 .
  4. Disconnect keyless control module. Measure voltage between keyless control module connector terminal "J" (Blue/Orange wire) and ground. If voltage is about 5 volts, go to step  13 . If voltage is not about 5 volts, go to next step.
  5. Measure voltage, by backprobing, between theft deterrent control module connector No. 1, terminal 1B (Blue/Red wire) and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair Blue/Red wire between theft deterrent control module and fuse block. After repairs, go to step  13 .
  6. Disconnect theft deterrent control module. Measure voltage between theft deterrent control module connector No. 1, terminal 1F (Black wire) and ground. Measure voltage between theft deterrent control module connector No 2, terminal 2T and ground. If battery voltage is present in either test, repair short to power in appropriate wire. After repairs, go to step  13 . If battery voltage is not present, go to next step.
  7. Check continuity between theft deterrent control module connector No. 1, terminal 1F and ground. If continuity is indicated, go to next step. If continuity is not indicated, repair open in Black wire between theft deterrent control module and ground. After repairs, go to step  13 .
  8. Check continuity between theft deterrent control module connector No. 2, terminal 2T (Blue/Orange wire) and ground. If continuity is indicated, repair short to ground in Blue/Orange wire between theft deterrent control module and keyless control module. After repairs, go to step  13 . If continuity is not indicated, go to next step.
  9. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and keyless control module by backprobing connector terminal "A" (Blue/Yellow wire). Measure voltage between ground and keyless control module by backprobing connector terminal "B" (Blue/Red wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Reading should be about 12 volts at each terminal. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage at either terminal is not as specified, repair affected circuit between keyless control module and underdash fuse block. After repairs, go to step  13 .
  10. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect keyless control module connector. Check for short circuit to voltage by measuring between ground and keyless control module connector terminals "A" (Blue/Yellow wire) and "L" (Black wire). If reading at both terminals is zero volts, go to next step. If reading at either terminal is about 12 volts, locate and repair short to voltage in affected circuit. After repairs, go to step  13 .
  11. Check for continuity between ground and keyless control module connector terminal "L" (Black wire). If continuity is indicated, go to next step. If continuity is not indicated, repair open circuit between control module connector terminal "L" (Black wire) and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After repairs, go to step  13 .
  12. Open driver's door. Using DVOM, check for continuity between ground and keyless control module connector terminal "C" (Black/Red wire). If continuity is indicated, replace keyless control module. See KEYLESS CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Reprogram keyless control module ID code. See CHANGING KEYLESS CONTROL MODULE ID CODE  under PROGRAMMING. If continuity is not indicated, locate and repair faulty circuit between keyless control module and door switches. See INTERIOR LIGHTS wiring diagram. After either repairs, go to next step.
  13. Recheck anti-theft/keyless entry system operation. If system is functioning properly, repairs are complete. If system is still malfunctioning, go back to step and retest system.
