Removal & Installation (Mazda6 2.3L & Miata)

CAUTION: The variable valve timing actuator camshaft sprocket is integrated with the variable valve timing actuator and cannot be disassembled.

Disconnect negative battery cable.
Remove timing belt. See appropriate TIMING BELT article in ENGINES.
Remove the variable valve timing actuator. See Fig 1.

NOTE: Set a wrench or equivalent tool at the hexagonal part of the camshaft to prevent rotation.

Loosen the variable valve timing actuator bolt.
To install, reverse removal procedure. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
