Removal & Installation (Tribute 3.0L)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2003 Mazda Tribute, 2003 Mazda Protege5, 2003 Mazda Protege, 2003 Mazda MX-5 Miata, and 2003 Mazda MPV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Numbers in parenthesis refer to numbers in illustrations.
  1. To remove the ignition coil-on-plug (left-hand side):
    1. Remove the nuts and the engine appearance cover. See Figure.
    2. Disconnect the harness connector (1). See Fig 1.
    3. Remove the bolt (2). See Fig 1.
    4. Remove the coil-on-plug (3). See Fig 1.
  2. To remove the ignition coil-on-plug (right-hand side):
    1. Remove the upper intake manifold. See UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD  under AIR INDUCTION SYSTEMS.
    2. Disconnect the harness connector (1). See Fig 2.
    3. Remove the bolt (2). See Fig 2.
    4. Remove the coil-on-plug (3). See Fig 2.
  3. To install, reverse removal procedure. Apply a light film of silicone brake caliper grease and dielectric compound to the interior of the spark plug boot prior to installation. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
