Removal & Installation (Tribute 3.0L)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2003 Mazda Tribute, 2003 Mazda Protege5, 2003 Mazda Protege, 2003 Mazda MX-5 Miata, and 2003 Mazda MPV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

WARNING: DO NOT smoke or carry an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

NOTE: Numbers in illustrations refer to numbers in the illustration.

Remove the upper intake manifold. See UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD under AIR INDUCTIONS SYSTEMS.
Disconnect the fuel line. See DISCONNECT (SPRING LOCK COUPLING) under FUEL LINE CONNECTORS (B2300, B3000, B4000 & TRIBUTE).

NOTE: One connector is shown, the other 5 connectors are similar.

Disconnect the 6 fuel injector harness connectors and release the wiring harness locators from the fuel injection supply manifold. See Fig 1.
Remove the vacuum hose. See Fig 2.
Remove the bolts and the manifold. See Fig 2.
Release the retaining clips (1). See Figure.
Remove the fuel injectors (2). See Figure.

CAUTION: Use "O" ring seals made of fuel-resistant material. Use of incorrect "O" ring seals may result in fuel leakage.

CAUTION: Never use silicone grease. Silicone grease may clog fuel injectors.

NOTE: Lubricate the "O" ring seals with clean SAE 5W-30 motor oil to aid installation.

NOTE: Install the fuel injector retaining clips onto the fuel injectors before installing the injectors onto the supply manifold.

To install, reverse removal procedure. Inspect "O" rings and replace if necessary. See Figure. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
