Diagnostic Procedures

NOTE:
Steering wheel must be turned during KOER Self-Test.
- If QUICK TEST was not performed, go to QUICK TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If QUICK TEST was performed, go to next step.
- Verify Electrical Function
With KOER, using scan tool, select Diagnostic Data Link. Select PCM. Select PID/Data Monitor and Record. View PSP PID while turning steering wheel left and right. If PSP PID indicates low/high and high/low, go to INTERMITTENT under SYSTEM TESTS. If PSP PID does not indicate low/high and high/low, go to next step. - Check For PSP Switch Cycling
Disconnect PSP switch connector or remove shorting bar. Install a jumper wire between PSP switch harness connector terminals. With KOER, using scan tool, select Diagnostic Data Link. Select PCM. Select PID/Data Monitor and Record. Record PSP PID reading. Remove jumper wire. Record PSP PID reading. Turn ignition off. If PSP PID changes from high to low, replace faulty PSP switch shorting bar. Go to step 6 . If PSP did not change from high to low, go to next step. - Check Continuity Of PSP Circuits
Disconnect PCM connector. Install breakout box, leaving PCM disconnected. Measure resistance of PSP circuit (Yellow/Light Green wire) between breakout box terminal No. 31 and PSP switch harness connector. See Fig 1 . Record reading. Measure resistance of SIG RTN circuit (Gray/Red wire) between breakout box terminal No. 91 and PSP switch harness connector. See Fig 1 . Record reading. If each resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If either resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 6 . - Check PSP Circuit For Short
Measure resistance between breakout box terminals No. 31 (PSP circuit) and 91 (SIG RTN circuit). Record reading. Measure resistance between breakout box terminal No. 31 (PSP circuit) and chassis ground. Record reading. If either resistance is less than 10,000 ohms, repair short in harness. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to next step. If either resistance is 10,000 ohms or more, replace faulty PCM. Go to next step. - Verify Trouble Shooting Of DTCs Completed
Reconnect all electrical connectors. Using scan tool, clear DTC memory. Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. See QUICK TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If same DTC is present, replace faulty PCM and repeat QUICK TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any other DTC is present, go to applicable procedure for other DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no DTCs are set, trouble shooting is complete.
