Code Definition

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda B4000, 2002 Mazda B3000, and 2002 Mazda B2300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: DTC only applies to 2.3L equipped vehicles.

DTC P1474 indicates excessive current draw detected on Fan Control (FC) circuit when PCM grounds the circuit or with FC circuit not grounded by PCM, voltage is not detected on FC circuit (PCM expects to detect VPWR voltage coming through low speed FC relay coil to FC circuit). PCM monitors certain parameters such as engine coolant temperature, vehicle speed, A/C on/off status, and A/C pressure to determine engine cooling fan needs. PCM controls fan operation through FC outputs.
