Diagnostic Procedures

- If QUICK TEST was not performed, go to QUICK TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If QUICK TEST was performed, go to next step.
- DTC P0453: Verify FTP Voltage
With KOEO, access and record FTP V PID. If FTP V PID voltage is more than 4.5 volts, go to next step. If FTP V PID voltage is 4.5 volts or less, fault that produced DTC P0453 is intermittent. See INTERMITTENT under SYSTEM TESTS. - Check FTP Sensor For Short To Power
Turn ignition off. Disconnect FTP sensor connector. With KOEO, measure voltage of FTP circuit (Red/Pink wire) between FTP sensor harness connector and battery ground. See Fig 1 . If voltage is more than 10.5 volts, a short to VPWR is indicated. Go to next step. If voltage is 10.5 volts or less, go to step 5 . - Check FTP Circuit For Short To VPWR
Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector. Install breakout box, leaving PCM disconnected. With KOEO, measure voltage between breakout box terminals No. 62 (FTP circuit) and 103 (PWR GND circuit). If voltage is more than 10.5 volts, repair short circuit between FTP (Red/Pink wire) and VPWR circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 11 . If voltage is 10.5 volts or less, FTP circuit is shorted to VPWR in PCM. Replace faulty PCM. Go to step 11 .NOTE: During next step, if a scan tool communication problem is present, remove jumper wire and go to step 10 . - Induce Opposite FTP Signal
Turn ignition off. Connect a jumper wire between SIG RTN circuit (Gray/Red wire) and FTP circuit (Red/Pink wire) at FTP sensor harness connector. See Fig 1 . With KOEO, access and record FTP V PID. If FTP V PID voltage is less than .10 volt, go to next step. If FTP V PID voltage is not less than .10 volt, VREF voltage is out of range. See VEHICLE REFERENCE VOLTAGE under SYSTEM TESTS. - Verify VREF Is In Range
Measure voltage between VREF (Brown/White wire) and SIG RTN (Gray/Red wire) circuits at FTP sensor harness connector. See Fig 1 . If VREF voltage is 4-6 volts, go to next step. If VREF voltage is not 4-6 volts, see VEHICLE REFERENCE VOLTAGE under SYSTEM TESTS. - Check FTP For Short To VREF In Sensor Or Harness
Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector. Install breakout box, leaving PCM disconnected. Measure resistance between breakout box terminals No. 62 (FTP circuit) and 90 (VREF circuit). If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, SIG RTN circuit is shorted to VREF circuit in FTP sensor. Replace faulty FTP sensor. Go to step 11 . If resistance is 10,000 ohms or less, repair harness short between FTP SIG circuit (Red/Pink wire) and VREF circuit (Brown/White wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 11 . - Check Resistance Of FTP Circuit
Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector. Install breakout box, leaving PCM disconnected. Measure resistance of FTP circuit between breakout box terminal No. 62 and FTP sensor harness connector (Red/Pink wire). See Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in FTP harness. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 11 . - Check Resistance Of SIG RTN Circuit
Measure resistance of SIG RTN circuit between breakout box terminal No. 91 and FTP sensor harness connector (Gray/Red wire). See Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in SIG RTN circuit (Gray/Red wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 11 . - Check FTP For Short To VREF In PCM Or Harness
Measure resistance between breakout box terminals No. 62 (FTP circuit) and 90 (VREF circuit). If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, FTP circuit (Red/Pink wire) is open, SIG RTN circuit (Gray/Red wire) is open or FTP circuit is shorted to VREF circuit in PCM. Replace faulty PCM. Go to next step. If resistance is 10,000 ohms or less, repair harness short between FTP (Red/Pink wire) and VREF (Brown/White wire) circuits. Go to next step. - Verify Trouble Shooting Of DTCs Completed
Perform QUICK TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any DTC is present, go to applicable procedure for other DTCs. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no DTCs are set, trouble shooting is complete.
