DTC 91: Air Bag Warning Light Circuit

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . If this is a present DTC, replace SAS control module. See SAS CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step  8. If this not a present DTC, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition to LOCK position. Remove negative battery cable. Wait more than one minute for back-up power supply to dissipate. Remove and inspect METER fuse located in joint box under left side of instrument panel. If METER fuse is okay, reinstall fuse and go to next step. If METER fuse is defective, replace fuse. Go to step  8.
  3. Remove instrument cluster. Remove and inspect AIR BAG warning light bulb. If bulb is okay, reinstall bulb and go to next step. If bulb is defective, replace bulb. Go to step  8.
  4. Check for continuity between instrument cluster terminals No. 3A and 3K. See Figure. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace instrument cluster meter unit. Go to step  8.
  5. Reconnect battery. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster connector terminal No. 2A (Black/Yellow wire). If voltage is more than 9 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 9 volts, repair wiring harness. Go to step  8.
  6. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Check White/Green wire between SAS control module connector terminal No. 2W and instrument cluster connector terminal No. 3K for short to ground, short to power and open circuit. See Figure & Figure . If wiring is okay, go to next step. If wiring is defective, replace wiring harness. Go to step  8.
  7. Check White/Green wire between SAS control module connector terminal No. 2W and data link connector terminal FAB for short to ground, short to power and open circuit. See Figure & Figure . If wiring is okay, go to next step. If wiring is defective, replace wiring harness. Go to next step.
  8. Reconnect all connectors. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Perform SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . Ensure AIR BAG warning light is operating properly. If not, reconfirm malfunction symptoms.
