DTC 26: Left Side Air Bag Module Circuit

- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Turn ignition to LOCK position. Remove negative battery cable. Wait more than one minute for back-up power supply to dissipate. Disconnect left side air bag module harness connector located under seat. See Figure. Inspect pins and separator of air bag module connector for damage. If pins and separator are okay and this is present DTC, go to next step. If pins and separator are okay and this is past DTC, go to step 3. If pins or separator are bent or broken, replace wiring harness. Go to step 4.
- Connect leads of Fuel And Thermometer Checker (49 0839 285) to harness side of left side air bag module connector. Set resistance of thermometer checker to 2 ohms. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on and check DTC. If DTC 26 is displayed, go to next step. If DTC 26 is not displayed, replace left side air bag module. See SIDE AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step 4.
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Check Yellow/Red wire between SAS control module connector 3A and left side air bag module connector for short to ground, short to power and open circuit. Check Yellow/Black wire between SAS control module connector 3C and left side air bag module connector for short to ground, short to power and open circuit. If wiring is okay and this is a present DTC, replace SAS control module. See SAS CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step. If wiring is okay and this is a past DTC, replace left side air bag module. See SIDE AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step. If wiring is defective, replace wiring harness. Go to next step.
- Reconnect all connectors. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Perform SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . Ensure AIR BAG warning light is operating properly. If not, reconfirm malfunction symptoms.
