Test Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda MPV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Remove square head plug. Connect oil pressure gauge to low clutch pressure inspection port. See Fig 1. Place pressure gauge where it can be read from driver's seat. Start engine. Shift gearshift lever to "D" position and read fluid pressure at idle.
- Depress accelerator fully and read fluid pressure as soon as RPM becomes constant, then release accelerator pedal. Shift gearshift lever to "N" position and idle engine for at least one minute, to cool fluid.
- Read fluid pressure at idle and stall speeds for "3" and "2" positions in the same manner. Turn engine off. Remove oil pressure gauge. Move pressure gauge to reverse clutch inspection port. See Fig 2. Start engine. Shift gearshift lever to "R" position. Read fluid pressure at idle and stall speed.
- Turn engine off. Remove oil pressure gauge. Install NEW square head plug in fluid pressure inspection port and tighten to 44-87 INCH lbs. (5-9.8 N.m). Ensure pressures are within specification. See HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TEST SPECIFICATIONS table. If pressures are not to specification, diagnose as necessary. See Fig 3.
