Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Has FREEZE FRAME PID DATA been recorded? If yes, go to next step. If no, record FREEZE FRAME PID DATA on repair order, then go to next step.
  2. Check for related service bulletins and/or on-line repair information availability. Is any related repair information available? If no, go to next step. If yes, perform repair or diagnosis according to available repair information. If vehicle is still not repaired, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition key to OFF then ON position (engine OFF). Verify related stored DTCs. Is DTC U0073 for TCM present? If yes, go to DTC U0073: CAN BUS OFF . If no, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect TCM connectors. Check for poor connection (damaged or pulled-out terminals, corrosion, etc.). Are there any faults? If yes, repair terminals, then go to step  9. If no, go to next step.
  5. Check continuity between following terminals:
    • TCM connector terminal 2J and body ground.
    • TCM connector terminal 2M and body ground.

    Is there continuity? If yes, repair or replace wiring harness, then go to step  9. If no, go to next step.

  6. Measure voltage between following terminals:
    • TCM connector terminal 2J and body ground.
    • TCM connector terminal 2M and body ground.

    Is battery voltage present? If yes, repair or replace wiring harness, then go to step  9. If no, go to next step.

  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector. Check for poor connection (damaged or pulled-out terminals, corrosion, etc.). Are there any faults? If yes, Repair terminal, then go to step  9. If no, go to next step.
  8. Disconnect PCM connector. Check continuity between following terminals:
    • TCM connector terminal 2J and PCM connector terminal 49.
    • TCM connector terminal 2M and PCM connector terminal 50.

    Is there continuity? If no, repair or replace wiring harness, then go to next step. If yes, go to next step.

  9. Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors. Clear DTC from memory. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Start engine and warm it up completely. Is same DTC present? If yes, replace TCM, then go to next step. See TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If no, go to next step.
