O/D Off Indicator Light

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Pull down adjusting lever of tilt steering wheel and push steering wheel down. Remove meter hood. Pull down gearshift lever to "D" range. Remove instrument cluster screws. See Fig 1. Pull cluster forward and disconnect harness connectors. Place cloth on steering column to prevent damage.
  2. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 3J on instrument cluster 24-pin harness connector. See Fig 2. Battery voltage should be present. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, inspect METER fuse No. 22 (15-amp). Replace as needed. If fuse is okay, inspect wiring harness. Repair as needed.
  3. Turn ignition off. Check continuity between terminal No. 1E on TCM harness connector and terminal No. 1H on instrument cluster 16-pin harness connector. See Fig 3. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair circuit as needed.
  4. Check continuity between terminals No. 1H and 3J on instrument cluster connectors. See Fig 4. If continuity exists, indicator light circuit is okay. If continuity does not exist, inspect bulb. Replace as needed. If bulb is okay, replace instrument cluster circuit board. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
