Differential Gear O-Ring Replacement

CAUTION:
  • The O-ring is easily damaged by the sharp edges of the drive shaft splines. Do not let the splines contact the O-ring.
  1. Remove the drive shaft and joint shaft. (See JOINT SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AJ] .) (See DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AJ] .)
    CAUTION:
    • Do not damage the differential case.
  2. Remove and discard the O-ring using a tapewrapped flathead screwdriver.
    CAUTION:
    • Do not damage the O-ring.
    • Do not damage the differential case.

  3. Apply ATF to a new O-ring and install it to the differential case.
  4. Install the drive shaft and joint shaft. (See JOINT SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AJ] .) (See DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AJ] .)
