Camshaft Position Sensor (MPV)
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 10 other vehicles, including the 2002 Mazda Tribute, 2002 Mazda Protege5, 2002 Mazda Protege, 2002 Mazda Millenia, and 2002 Mazda MX-5 Miata. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Disconnect Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor connector. See Fig 1 . Measure resistance between CMP sensor connector terminals. If resistance is 308-376 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace CMP sensor.
- If resistance reading is okay but PID value or voltage is out of specification, check for open or short circuit in wiring harness. Disconnect PCM harness connector. Connect 104-pin breakout box to PCM harness connector. See Fig 3
. Leave PCM disconnected. Check continuity of following circuits:
- Between CMP sensor harness connector terminal "A" (Brown/Light Green wire) and PCM harness connector terminal No. 85 (Orange wire). See Fig 2 .
- Between CMP sensor harness connector terminal "B" (Blue/Orange wire) and PCM harness connector terminal No. 86 (Yellow wire).
If continuity is not present, repair open circuit in wiring harness. If continuity is present, check for short circuit between following:
- Between CMP sensor harness connector terminal "A" (Brown/Light Green wire) and power.
- Between CMP sensor harness connector terminal "A" (Brown/Light Green wire) and ground.
- Between CMP sensor harness connector terminal "B" (Blue/Orange wire) and power.
- Between CMP sensor harness connector terminal "B" (Blue/Orange wire) and ground.
If continuity is present, repair or replace wiring harness as necessary.
