Possible Causes

An AIR BAG warning light that does not illuminate may be caused by SAS control module malfunction, open or short in wiring harness between SAS control module and instrument cluster, instrument cluster malfunction, poor contact in instrument cluster or open AIR BAG warning light bulb.
- Inspect other warning and indicator lights
Turn ignition switch to ON position and inspect other warning lights in instrument cluster. If other warning lights illuminate, turn ignition switch to LOCK position and go to next step. If other warning lights do not illuminate, inspect instrument cluster power supply and ground system, then go to step 6 . - Inspect AIR BAG warning light bulb
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster and inspect AIR BAG warning light bulb. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If bulb is good, reinstall bulb and go to next step. If bulb is open, replace bulb and go to step 6 . - Inspect wiring harness for continuity
Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Check for continuity between SAS connector No. 1 terminal No. 1T and instrument cluster connector terminal No. 3R. See Fig 1 & Fig 2 . If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace air bag system wiring harness and go to step 6 . - Inspect wiring harness for short to power
Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster connector terminal No. 3R. If voltage is less than 9 volts, go to next step. If voltage is more than 9 volts, replace air bag system wiring harness and go to step 6 . - Inspect instrument cluster print plate for malfunction
Check for continuity between component side of instrument cluster connector terminals No. 3R and 3J. If continuity exists, replace SAS control module and go to next step. See SAS CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If continuity does not exist, replace instrument cluster and go to step 6 . See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. - Check for malfunction after repair
Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least one minute. Reconnect instrument cluster harness connector. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If AIR BAG warning light operates properly, test is complete. If AIR BAG warning light does not operate properly, go to step 1 and repeat diagnostic test.
