Chain TENSIONER (RH) Disassembly Note

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2006 Mazda MPV, 2005 Mazda MPV, 2004 Mazda MPV, 2004 Mazda 6, and 2003 Mazda MPV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Before removing chain tensioner (RH), turn the crankshaft clockwise to position the crankshaft keyway in the 11 o'clock position.
Verify that marks on the camshaft sprockets are aligned.

Turn the crankshaft clockwise to position the crankshaft keyway in the 3 o'clock position. (camshafts (RH) are in the neutral position.)

Hold the timing chain tensioner ratchet lock mechanism away from the ratchet stem with a thin screwdriver.

Slowly press the tensioner piston.
Hold the tensioner piston with a 1.5 mm {0.06 in} wire or paper clip.
