Determination procedure

CAUTION:
  • When disconnecting the connector, verify that there is no looseness, damage, deformation, corrosion, or poor connection of the connector terminals.
  • When inspecting the DLC-2, touch it with a paper clip or similar thin pin without directly inserting a tester into the terminals.
Step Inspection Action
1 INSPECT CAN LINE IN BCM FOR SHORT TO GROUND
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  • Disconnect the all BCM connectors.
  • Verify continuity between the following terminals:
    • Between BCM terminal 6W and body ground
    • Between BCM terminal 6X and body ground
  • Is there continuity?
Yes Replace the BCM because there is a short to ground in the BCM.
(See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
No Go to the next step.
2 INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN BCM AND DLC-2 FOR SHORT TO GROUND
  • Verify continuity between the following terminals:
    • Between DLC-2 terminal F and body ground
    • Between DLC-2 terminal E and body ground
  • Is there continuity?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Go to Step 8.
3 INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-18 AND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FOR SHORT TO GROUND
  • Disconnect connector C-18.
  • Verify continuity between the following terminals:
    • Between DLC-2 terminal F and body ground
    • Between DLC-2 terminal E and body ground
  • Is there continuity?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair or replace the wiring harness between the BCM and connector C-18 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
4 INSPECT CAN-RELATED MODULES FOR SHORT TO GROUND
  • Remove the SAS control module and instrument cluster one by one and verify the continuity between the following terminals:
    • Between DLC-2 terminal F and body ground
    • Between DLC-2 terminal E and body ground
  • Is there continuity?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Replace the module in which there was no continuity when it was removed.
5 INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN DLC-2 AND CONNECTOR C-47 FOR SHORT TO GROUND
  • Disconnect connector C-47.
  • Verify continuity between the following terminals:
    • Between DLC-2 terminal F and body ground
    • Between DLC-2 terminal E and body ground
  • Is there continuity?
Yes Repair or replace the wiring harness between DLC-2 and connector C-47 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No Go to the next step.
6 INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN SAS CONTROL MODULE AND CONNECTOR C-47 FOR SHORT TO GROUND
  • Verify continuity between the following terminals:
    • Between SAS control module terminal 1X (wiring harness side) and body ground
    • Between SAS control module terminal 1T (wiring harness side) and body ground
  • Is there continuity?
Yes Repair or replace the wiring harness between SAS control module and connector C-47 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No Go to the next step.
7 INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND CONNECTOR C-47 FOR SHORT TO GROUND
  • Verify continuity between the following terminals:
    • Between instrument cluster terminal B (wiring harness side) and body ground
    • Between instrument cluster terminal D (wiring harness side) and body ground
  • Is there continuity?
Yes Repair or replace the wiring harness between the instrument cluster and connector C-47 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No Repair or replace the wiring harness between connector C-18 and connector C-47 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
8 INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN BCM AND CONNECTOR C-02 FOR SHORT TO GROUND
  • Disconnect connector C-02.
  • Verify continuity between the following terminals:
    • Between BCM terminal 1A (wiring harness side) and body ground
    • Between BCM terminal 1B (wiring harness side) and body ground
  • Is there continuity?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Go to Step 10.
9 INSPECT CAN-RELATED MODULES FOR SHORT TO GROUND
  • Remove the EHPAS control module, DSC HU/CM one by one and verify the continuity between the following terminals:
    • Between BCM terminal 1A (wiring harness side) and body ground
    • Between BCM terminal 1B (wiring harness side) and body ground
  • Is there continuity?
Yes Repair or replace the wiring harness between connector C-02 and the BCM because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No Replace the module in which there was no continuity when it was removed.
10 INSPECT CAN-RELATED MODULES FOR SHORT TO GROUND
  • Remove the TCM and PCM one by one and verify the continuity between the following terminals:
    • Between PCM terminal 1AM (wiring harness side) and body ground
    • Between PCM terminal 1AI (wiring harness side) and body ground
  • Is there continuity?
Yes Repair or replace the wiring harness between PCM and the connector C-02 because the wiring harness is shorted to ground.
No Replace the module in which there was no continuity when it was removed.
